Specification of Iiett rs Patent. P t ted A g 1 2 1919,
Application filed December 18, 1918. Serial No. 267,253.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMos B. CASSELMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspensories; and I do'hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
Suspensories of the "type :towhich the present invention relates are a necessary but unfortunately, as heretofore constructed, an inconvenient and uncomfortable adjunct to'the personal equipment of those'obliged to employ them. The objects of the pres- :ent invention are primarily to provide a suspensory which will, in a large measure, overcome or avoid'many of the defects of prior devices and reduce the discomfort of the wearer.
Generally speaking the invention contemplates-the provision of a suspensory recuirin but a sin le waist band or su ortil y adjusted for position and the privates of :the person easily and quickly placed within or removed from the same. Provision is al'so'made whereby the bag is prevented from collapsing around the privates due to the weight of the latter.
In the present embodiment, the objects sought are partly attained :by an exceedingly simple supporting arrangement for the scrotum bag, in which the use of straps extending underneath the pelvis and betweenthe legs of the wearer is entirely eliminated, :together with an arrangement for supporting the bag which permits of the bag being adjusted vertically without the necessity of manipulating or removing the body encircling belt.
1 The novel features will be particularly pointed out and specified in the claims at the end of thespecification.
In the accompanying drawing there is shown a front view of .a suspensory constructed in accordancewith the present in vention, illustrating the mode of application to the :body of'the wearer.
As shown, the suspensory includes abody' encircling belt A usually made of webbing or flat tape and provided with a buckle A whereby the belt may be adjusted about the body of the wearer. The'buckle may be of any preferred construction for adjustably securing the free end a, In the front, the belt A is preferably divided, as shown, and the opposite end portions B, Bf will, when in position on the body, form downwardly depending reaches which are made long enough to extend along the .opposite sides of the lower abdominal region or groin of the wearer. 1
At is lower extremity, each reach B, B
is provided with a ring ,0. Secured .to the rings 0, and bridging the space between them, is the member which supports the scrotum bag E. This supporting member, indicated at D, is preferably formed of a strand of tape material so secured to the rings C as :to form two depending reaches 1), 13?, between saidrings, from each .of which one end of the scrotum bag E is supported or suspended. Preferably, the two [reaches are formed by permanently attaching one end of the tape to one ring C, as
at (Z, :then doubling the tape upon itself in the other ring to form a loop and then fastening. the end .of the tape to :the ='first ring C, as at d, this latter end being detachably secured or tied :to :the ring and the looped end' of the tape being slidably held the wother ring so that the length .of the reaches =1), D formed by the loop may be changed I to adjust the height of the scrotum bag, as
will presently appear.
LSecured to the opposite ,ends ;of the scrotum bag E, and adjacent the top thereof, are two suspensionmembers preferably in the form of loopsgF, :one of which is :carried by the reach D of thevsupporting meniber D, andithe other by ftheireach tD By attaching the suspension n'oembe'rsiF of the bag to the reaches of 1the'supporting member in this manneneach reach of the latter is subjected to only one downwardly directedstrain, the points of stressonitherespective reaches %being located 01f to the opposite sides of 213116 verticalvcenteroflthe scrotum bag. As each reachis, therefore,
pulled down at only :one point, when the reaches have been drawn (taut, shown in the drawing, lthe suspension members or :loops have no tendency {to slip or move toward. each other but on ,thecontrary they rare" and in :spaced relation to each other and the upper portion of the bag held distended.
As before mentioned, the suspension members F of the bag are preferably in the form of plain loops and are slidably carried on the reaches D, D of the sup ortin member D so that they will easily s ide when the tape is shortened or lengthened to adjust the bag vertically. Inasmuch as loops F are loose on the reaches D, D to adjust the scrotum bag vertically, it is only necessary to untie the end (Z of the tape and take in a little of the tape it the bag is to be elevated or let out a little so' that the reaches D, D will sag a little if the bag is to be lowered. Furthermore, the loops F being loose on the reaches D, D the scrotum bag may be detached to permit a new one to be substituted or for any other purpose desired such as laundrying, etc.
As the reaches D, D extend down into the groin and'follow closely the abdominal lines, the scrotum bag E will hang in line with and directly underneath the scrotum, the latter itself assisting in holding the bag in place. This method of suspending the scrotum bag obviates the necessity for straps passing beneath the legs and around the back of the wearer, a common cause of discomfort to the wearer of a suspensory. In addition, the position of the bag directly underneath the scrotum renders it possible to construct the bag sufficiently shallow to permit the penis being passed over the upper edge of the bag, thus simplifying the bag construction by doing away with the usual uncomfortable penis opening.
The tape looped between the ends of the belt forms, in effect, two flexible supporting members, a single tape doubled through the ring being employed rather than two separate tapes in order to simplify the construction and to provide for an evening up of the load on the two members and the incidontal supporting of the ends of the bag at the same level.
hat I claim is:

A suspensory comprising a body encircling belt having its ends separated, a scrotum supporting bag, suspension members attached to the opposite ends of the upper portion of the bag, and adjustable supporting means extending between the ends of the belt and connecting the belt and suspension members, said supporting means being slidably connected to one end of the belt and adapted to maintain the suspension members in spaced relation, whereby the top of the scrotum bag is held distended.
2. A suspensory comprising a divided body encircling belt, a scrotum supporting bag, suspension members attached to the opposite ends of the upper portion of the bag, and supporting means extending between the ends of the belt and connecting the belt and suspension members, the supporting means being slidably connected to one end of the belt and adapted to maintain the suspension members in spaced relation, whereby the top of the scrotum bag is held distended, said suspension members being detachably secured to the supporting means.
3. A suspensory comprising a divided body encircling belt, a scrotum supporting bag, suspension members secured to the opposite ends of the top of the bag, and a pair of supporting members connecting the ends of the belt, there being a slidable connection between the supporting members and one end of the belt and each of said supporting members having one of the suspension members of the bag secured thereon.

6. A suspensory comprising a divided body encircling belt, a scrotum supporting bag, a pair of adjustable supporting members detachably secured to one end of the belt and slidably connected to the other end, and connections between the opposite ends of the upper portion of the scrotum bag and the respective supporting members.
7. A suspensory comprising a divided body encircling belt, a scrotum bag, sup porting means for said bag comprising a single member connecting the ends of the belts and formed into two relatively movable depending reaches, and suspension members secured to the opposite ends of the bag and the respective reaches of the supporting means. 7
8. A suspensory comprising a divided body encircling belt, a scrotum bag, supporting means for said bag comprising a single member extending between the ends of the belt and formed into two relatively movable depending reaches, said member be 12 ing slidably secured to one end of the belt, and suspension members secured to the opposite ends of the bag and the respective reaches of the supporting means.
