CHARLES VOLKERT, .13., OF NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY.
ABDOMINAL SUPPORT AND PROTECTOR.
Application filed December 16, 1925. Serial No. 75,756.
My invention consists in new and useful improvements in abdominal supports and protectors and has for its object. to providesuch a device which may be. used by stout people for supporting the stomach and reducing the waist line.
Another object is that it prevents rupture and helps hernia in any part of the groin or stomach, makes the wearer walk in an erect position, gives more energy, forming an additional wall and support for the entire abdominal region of man or woman and particularly adapted for use by all classes of athletes.
A still further object of my invention is that it is simple and inexpensive to manufacture, all parts with the exception of the back pad, being continuations of the main body, and the entire device is washable.
\Vith the above and other objects in View which will appear as the description proreeds, my invention consists in the novel features herein set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing, in which numerals of like character designate similar parts throughout both views,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the manner in which the device is applied to a human body, and
F 2 is a View of the device therefrom.
In the drawings, 1 represents the main body of my improved support, which may be made of cotton or silk material, gradually tapering at the upper ends to form waist straps 2 and 3, and at the lower extremities to form leg straps 4 and 5, the latter being provided with a buckle 6. The section passing under the legs is shaped out as at 7, for the scrotum in order to prevent inguinal hernia.
8 represents a back pad provided with buckles 9 and 10 for engaging the ends of the waist straps 2 and 3 respectively, when the device is applied to the body of the wearer.
In the front of the main body portion 1, I provide a vertically extending strip 11, stitched thereto at predetermined points to form loops 12 adapted to receive the leg removed straps 4 and 5 when buckled, as will be later described. 1
The application of. my device is as follows: v
The body portion 1 is placed on the abdomen and the straps 2 and 3 brought around the waist and buckled to the back pad 8 by means of their respective buckles. The straps 4 and 5 are then placed between the legs from the front, as shown in Fig. 1, and one brought around the outside of each leg, when they are passed through the desired loop 12 and the end of the strap 4 buckled to strap 5 by the buckle 6, in front of the main body 1.
By having the leg straps buckle independent of the main body, through one of the loops 12, over the front of the abdominal section, it will be seen that additional support is obtained, at the same time permitting freedom of movement "in the legs,
without the objectionable disadvantages of binding or chafing.
From the foregoing, it is believed that my invention may be clearly understood, it being borne in mind that numerous changes may be made in the details of construction withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention as disclosed in the following claims.
It will be noted that the device may be used as 1 a temporary abdominal support after major abdominal operations, such as appendicitis, hernia, etc., and can be made in all sizes.
\Vhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An abdominal support and protector comprising a. main body portion, said body portion having integral extensions tapering in size to form waist straps, fastening means for said waist straps, a strap secured to the front of said main body portion, lower le straps forming an integral part of said body portion, the leg straps being provided with cooperating fastening means, said straps adapted to be passed down and between the legs of the wearer around the out side of each leg and fastened. to one another over the main body portion.
2. An abdominal support and protector comprising a main body portion, said body portion tapering at its upper end to form.
waist straps and at its lower end to form leg straps, fastening means mounted on the ends of said waist straps, a strap fastened to the front of said body portion so as to form a series of loops, the leg straps being provided with cooperating fastening means, and said straps adapted to be passed down and between the legs from the front of the wearer, around the outside of each leg and secured together through one of said loops 10 in front of said body portion.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
