commonly used, and thus relieve the stomach and liver from the pressure and irritati on which it produces, all as hereinafter fully described. Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 represents my improved abdominal supporter in front perspective view of the person of the wearer as it is applied in use. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective of Fig. 1.
The bandage a, which is of the usual form of the abdomen, so far as the front is concerned, is elongated and reduced in breadth at the hips to the form of straps b, which pass over the hips and cross the back of the patient to the opposite shoulders, the two straps also crossing each other at the middle of the back, or thereabout, and descending from the shoulders along the sides of the breast of the wearer to the sack, to which they are connected by branched straps c, buckled to them at d, for lengthening and shortening them asrequired.
(No model.)
' I propose to arrange pads e, of soft material,
under the straps c and the buckles, and along the region of the breasts will construct the straps b with suitably-rounded edges, f, and of suitably soft material, for protecting them from 40 in front to raise the abdomen will also draw 45 the lower part of the bandage toward the back part of the body by the tension across the hips. Besides affording comfortable support of the abdomen and preventing accidental injury to persons requiring to use it, it will prevent prolapsus uteri and abortus. It adjusts and forms itself naturally and comfortably around the lower abdomen, and prevents much of the pain usually suffered by pregnant women, and the bandage can be applied over the under-garments with like useful results, if desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An abdominal sack, a, having elongations forming straps b, which pass over the hips across the back, over the shoulders, and down the breast to the front, and being connected to the front a by buckles d and straps c, substantially as described.
, AUGUSTUS GALNY.
