.UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES REASER PIOKETT, OF DELAWARE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTOMS.
, Specification forming part of Letters Patent do. 131,180, dated September 10, 1872.
SPECIFICATION. Be it known that I, CHARLES REASER PIoK- ETT, of Delaware, in the county of Delaware and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation and Fig. 2 is a top view.
Nature.
My invention consists of leverbraces, in combination with spiral springs, arranged so as to distribute and equalize the pressure over the bottom of the bed. The lever-braces and springs are supported by a bottom frame, and the bed-slats, extending lengthwise of the bed, rest in the middle upon spiral springs and at the ends upon cross-bars resting on the upperends of the braces, supported by spiral springs. The lever-braces, inclined transversely, extend lengthwise of the bed across a fulcrum-bar in the middle, to which bar they are attached freely near their lower ends, to which are attached cross-slats supporting the inner spiral springs.
A A are the lever-braces, extending diagonally from the upper corners of the bed-bottom across the fulcrum-bar b, to which they are attached so as to work freely. The lower ends of these braces are attached to crossslats c c resting on the bottom bars B. (See Fig. 1 of the drawing.) (3 O are spiral springs, arranged under the ends of the lever-braces,
and under the bed-slats, as shown in the draw- Claim.
In a bed-bottom, the lever-braces A, in combination with fulcrum-bar b, cross-slats c c, and spiral springs O, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto .set my hand this 23d day of July, 1872.
O. R. PIOKETT.
