IMPROVEMENT IN MUSIC-LEAF TURNERS.

SPECIFICATION.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, SAMUEL NIoIrnLsoN, of Gallatin, in the county or" Sumner and State of Tennessee, have invented certain improvements in Devices for Turning Sheets or Leaves of Music, of which the following is a specification, reference bein g had to the. accompanying drawing.

My invention consists in a device of novel construction for holding sheet or bound music, and turning the leaves or sheets of the same over as required by the performer.

In constructing my device I iirst provide a hat board or fra-me, A, of suitable size, and to its face secure a vertical rod, B, extending` down the middle, as shown. Between the rod and the board I leave suiticient room to permit the insertion oi" the sheets of music, and across the lower end of the board I secure a cleat or strip, a., for the sheets to stand upon, as shown. In order to hold the sheets in position, I provide the rod B with a movable sleeve or button, C, which may be pushed up so as to bear in the middle of the sheets, as shown. The elasticity of the rod serves to keep the sleeve pressed down upon the sheets, and permits the insertion of any desired number or thickness of sheets. Through the cleat a I make a hole, b, into which the sleeve or button C maybe pushed, so as to be out of the way when the sheets of music are to be inserted or withdrawn. On the rod B I mount any desired number of rectangular wire frames E, so that they may be turned over to the right or left. Each frame I provide with a small arm, c, and to said arms connect springs F, which pass backward through the board, as shown, so that they tend to draw the frames over to the left. In the righthand side of the board I mount a series of pivoted catches, G, to hold the frames over on the right-hand side. The catches I provide with nger pieces d, by depressing which the catches are operated, so as to release the respective frames and per- Init them to swing over to the left. The frames I arrange so that they shut down closely within each other, and the catches so that their ends iit through between the frames, as shown in Figs l and 2. When thus arranged it Will be seen the frames can only be released one at a time and in regular order, commencing with the outer one, for the reason that each traine engages behind'the catch of the frame next inside, so as to prevent it from being released. This arrangement effeetually prevents the leaves from being turned over except in their proper order.

In using the device the sleeve or button G is pushed down out of the way, the music inserted under the rod B, and then the sleeve pushed up so as to bear on its face and hold it in position. The inside frame E is then turned down on the right, so as to be held by its catch and a sheet of music turned down upon it, and then the next frame and another sheet turned down, and so on alternately with the frames and sheets. The sheets are then turned, as required, by simply depressing the finger-pieces in their proper order, so as to release the successive frames and allow them to turn over to the lett and carry the sheets with them. I

It is obvious that any desired number of frames may be used, and that they may be made of any other form; and, also, that the springs may be connected in a different manner, and that ditt'erent devices may be used to hold the sheets down in place.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, is-

l. The device for turning music-leaves, consistin g of the board yor frame A', swinging frames E, springs F, and catches G, the catches arranged to be locked by the frames in the manner shown and described, so that the frames can only be released in their proper order, and one at a time, as set forth.

2. In combination with the swinging frames E, I claim the rod and sleeve, arranged as de scribed, for the purpose of holding the leaves in place.
