WALDEMAR KOPS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A SSIGNOR TO KClPS BROS., OF NEW YORK, N. Y.,
' A FIRM.
BRASSIERE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1919.
Application filed October 11, 1917. Serial No. 195,883.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALDEMAR Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and
State of New'York, have invented an Imscribed in Letters Patent No. 1,237,059
granted to me August 14, 1917, brassieres of this nature have been provided with suitable devices for properly supporting the busts of Also in Letters Patent No.
there is shown and described a brassiere structure in which the front portion of the body of the brassiere is designed to conform to the body of the wearer to properly support the busts, the garment being so constructed as to be adjustable to position at substantially the axillary lines thereof.
The object of the brassiere structure as shown in the present case is similar to that Letters Patent No. 1,253,052 aforesaid. In this instance however, the brassiere is made of a continuous member preferably comprising front and back portions, the front portion extending between the axillary lines of the body of the wearer with the back portions connected thereto permanently and adapted to be connected so as to properly adjust the garment to position on the wearer in such a manner that it will form an adequate support for the busts, and this garment will be hereinafter more particularly the body of the wearer and to extend preferably from one axial line to the other. I also employ back members 11 and 12. The back member 11 is connected to one end of the front member 10 by a suitable reinforcing strip 13 and lines of stitching or otherwise. This back member 11 at its opposite edge i's-provided with a reinforcing strip 11 secured to which there is a series of hooks indicated at 15. Similarly the back member 12 is connected to the opposite end of the front member 10 by means of a reinforcing strip 16 and suitable lines of stitching. At its opposite edge the back member 12 is provided with a reinforcing strip 17 in which there is a series of spaced eyelets 18. Also connected to and forming part of this back member 12 is a connecting strap 19. In one edge of this connecting strap 19 there is a series of eyelets 20 corresponding in number and position to the eyelets 18 in the reinforcing strip 17. Along its opposite edge the connecting strap 19 is provided with eyes 21 adapted to be engaged by the hooks 15. Laces 22 and 23 are passed through the eyelets 18 and 20 respectively and the corresponding ends of the laces 22 are suitably fixed in the reinforcing strap 17 while the corresponding ends of the laces 23 are fixed in the connecting strip 17. The opposite ends of the laces 22 are brought together and connected to a tape 21 and similarly the opposite ends of the laces 23 are brought together and secured to a tape 25.
The parts of this garment may be provided with shoulder straps 26 and 27 and the back member 11 may be reinforced by a strip 28 and the back member 12 with a similar strip 29.
By reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen that without departing from the nature and spirit of my invention I may dispense with the use of the hooks and eyes by which the ends of the garment are connected in the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In this structure the division of the garment is made centrally at the rear and the laces 22 pass through eyelets 30 and 31 secured respec tively in reinforcing strips 32 and 33 secured to the adjacent edges of the back members of the brassiere, the laces being secured in a manner similar to that hereinbefore described.
In the use of the form of this garment as shown in Fig. 2 will be apparent the hooks -4 quired extent to pass the same over the head and. shoulders of the wearer before the same is adjusted to position in a manner similar to that hereinbefore described in connection with the form of the invention as shown in Fig. 2. a
While in the garments hereinbefore described the front member is a closed or continuous structure made to fit the busts of the wearer, it will be apparent that in either form of the invention, and particularly in that form shown in Fig. 3, the front member of the garment may be divided and provided with suitable clasps by which the front edges of the brassiere may be connected to one another.
I claim as my invention: I 1, As a new article of manufacture, abrassiere comprising a continuous front member constructed to function as a bust supporter, a divided back member connected to the front member, and a series of laces eachextending through the end of one back'member and attached to the end of the other back member and adapted to be passed around the waist and secured in position to adjust the brassiere to position on the body of the wearer.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a brassiere comprising a front member formed to function as a bust supporter, a divided back member, and a series of laces in pairs each adapted at corresponding ends to pass through the end of one back member and to be secured to the end of the other back member, the laces at their. opposite ends being adapted to be passed around the Waist ofthe wearer and secured in position to adjust and secure the brassiere in position on the body of the wearer.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a brassiere comprising a contmuons front member adapted to function as a bust supporter, a
divided back member, series of laces in pairs, each of whlch at corresponding ends 1s passed through the end of one back member and connected to the end of the other back member, and tapes through which the said pairs of laces are looped and which are adapted to ass around the waist of the wearer and to e secured in position to adjust and secure the brassire in position on the body of the wearer. I
Signed by me this'8th day of October, 1917.
