, BUST-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1M1 1191?.
Application filed July 21', 1916. Serial No. 110,481.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Tmprovement in Bust-Stu porters, of which the following is a speci cation.
I am aware that heretofore bust supporters have been constructed in various Ways and adapted to be directly associated with apparel corsets and also to be used independently thereof. When associated with an apparel corset bust supporters have commonly been connected therewith in such a manner as to be supported thereby and when adapted to be used independently of a corset they have been secured to the body of the wearer by shoulder straps in some instances and by straps passing around the bodyof the wearer in other instances and by both shoulder and body straps in still other instances. So far as has come tomy all notice, however, bust supporters have not heretofore been made so as to be adjusted to position on the body of the wearer independently of the adjustment of a corset garment and the object therefore of my invention is the provision of abust supporter which may be used independently of an apparel corset and is so constructed as to be adjustable to position preferably at the side of the garment by the devices employed therewith. To this end in carrying out my invention the bust supporter made in accordance therewith comprises a garment in which there is included a body member, bust form members and means on the side of the garment for adjustably connecting the bust form members to the bodyof the garment sothat by the adjustment of the said means the bust form members may be properly placed and secured in position and caused to conform to and support the bust of the, wearer of the garment as will be hereinafter more particularly described.
' In the drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the bust supporter made in accordance with my invention, showing the same I in position on the body of the wearer which is indicated in dotted lines.
Fjig. 2 is a side elevation of the garment, and
Fig. 3 is a partial elevation showing the adjusting means and looking at the same from the inner side of the garment.
Referring to the d a i g t Will be seen that in carrying out this invention the bust supporter garment comprises a body member 10' adapted to reach across the back of the wearer and extend an appreciable distance beneath the arms. This body member 10 is provided with shoulder straps 11 which terminate respectively in front body me1nbers 12' and 13. To the front body member 12 a bust form member 14: is suitably secured and similarly to the front body member 13 a bust form member 15 is secured. These bust form members 14 and 15 are suitably shaped to conform to the body of the wearer and mad be made of any suitable material, but I prefer, however, to make them of elastic webbing material so as to more readily and completely conform to the body of the wearer.
The bust form members 14 and 15 are preferably divided or separated and along their adjacent edges they are provided with reinforcing strips 16. Fitted in these reinforcing strips there are hooks and eyes 17 by which these bust form members at the front of the garment may be suitably connected one to the other.
At each side of the garment the body member 11 substantially at the axillary line orthat portion thereof extending under the arm is adjustably connected to the corresponding'bust form member. The means for adjustably connecting these members are alike in both sides of the garment and as clearly indicated in Fig. 3, which represents the left side of the garment, I employ a series of laces 18 for this purpose. Each of these laces is connected at one end, indicated at 19, to one edge. of the front body portion 13 to whichthe bust form member 15 is secured and'each lace 18 is passed through an eyelet 20 secured in the adjacent edge of the back member 10. The ends of the laces 18 are suitably joined at the inner slde of the garment and connected to a single or common lace 21k. At the other or right hand side of the garment the laces correspond with the laces 18 and are similarly secured and laced in this side of the garment. These laces 22 are also united and connected to lace 23, the laces 21 and 23 being adapted to be drawn up to bring the bust form members 14 and 15 to the desired positions and to then be tied together or otherwise secured in order to maintain the bust form members in place. In order to cover the adjusting laces ea h front body.
ment.
I claim as my invention:
1. A bust supporter comprising a back member, a bust supporter member, and means for adjustably connecting the back member to the bust support member at substantially the axillary line of the garment.
2. A bust supporter comprising a back member, bust supporter members, means for connecting the adjacent edges of the bust members, and means for adjustably connecting the back member to the bust support members at substantially the axillary lines of the garment.
3. A bust supporter comprising a back member, bust support members, shoulder straps connecting the back member to each bust support member, devices for connecting the bust support members along their adjacent edges, and adjustable means for connecting the back member to the bust support members along substantially the axillary lines of the garment.
4;. A bust supporter comprising a body member, bust support members, series of laces for connecting the distant edges of the bust support members to the said body member at the sides of the garment along the axillary lines thereof, each series of laces being connected at corresponding ends in spaced positions to a bust support member, then passed through eyelets in the adjacent edge of the body member and connected to a single lace, the said single laces being adapted to be drawn together to adjust the bust support members to position, and then secured together to maintain the parts in their adjusted positions.
Signed by me this 17th day of July, 1916.
DANIEL KOPS.
