rlhis invention relates to an apparel garment and more particularly to that type oi garment in which a brassire or bust supporter member is associated with a girdle. I am aware that heretofore bust supporters or brassires and girdles have been worn as separate and independent garments. Heretoiore also provision has been made tor uniting a brassire with a girdle to form a combined garment thereof. In the use of this type oi" garment there is little or no diculty in the front portions of the brassire being maintained in position relatively to the front portion of the girdle. In instances, however, Where the back of the brassire is iXedly connected to the the garment are not adapted to adjust themselves to various movements of the body of the wearer and consequently in certain positions, for example, in stooping, the garment is eX- ceedingly uncomfortable. Moreover, when the brassire and girdle are separate garments the back portion o'i the brassire has a tend ency in certain movements or" the body to creep or ride upwardly and when this occurs there is only one way in which to return it to its normal position, that is, by manually pulling it back to place.

The object of my invention is to overcome the inconveniences and diiliculties hereinbetore referred to and in doing so the garment made in accordance with the invention comprises a combined brassire and girdle preferably open at the side and in which the front member of the brassire is tixedly connected to the front portion of the girdle while the back portion of the brassire is adapted to underlie the upper back portion ot the girdle and is connected thereto merely by sets of yielding or elastic straps by means ot which the back portion of the brassire is returned and normally maintained in its intended position relatively to the back member of the girdle.

rlhe garment as illustrated in the drawing comprises a brassire member and a girdle. rlhe girdle is constructed to include a front member 10 which tapers downwardly and in the upper portion thereof may be suitably iitted with a series or" spaced stays 11. The girdle also includes a right side member including an inelastic section 12 and an elastic section 13, together with an elastic insert 141. rlhe section 12 and the insert let are suitably connected to each other and to the front member 1() and likewise the section 12 is suitably connected to th elastic section 13 on the right side ot the girdle. ln the left side of the girdle there is a side member comprising a section 15 of inelastic material, a section 16 of elastic material and an insert of elastic material indicated at 17. The inelastic section 15 and the insert 17 are connected to each other and to t-he front member 10 and the lower portions orn the adjacent edges otl the inelastic section 15 and the elastic section 16 are connected to each other as indicated at 18 by a reinforcing strip and suitable lines of stitching that extend from the lower edges of these members a predetermined distance upwardly to a point indicated at 19 above which the parts of the girdle, as well as the parts ot the brassire as hereinafter described are open and fitted with suitable series of hooks 20 and eyes 21 forming the closure tor the garment.

The girdle also includes a back member which as illustrated is constructed to comprise sections 22, 23 and 24 all made oi inelastic material and suitably shaped and connected to each other and to the elastic sections 13 and 16 of the side members. ln the upper central portion of the bach member I employ an elastic insert 25, the upper edge portions of the centrally disposed section 22 of the back member being cut away, as indicated at 26, making ll-shaped gore portions filled by parts of this elastic insert for increasing the yieldability of the upper central back portion of the girdle. In like manner the reinforcing strip 37 and the lines stitching 3S connect the baclr member and lett liandside member of the brassire to the girdle from the point 40 at the lower ed ge of the brassire to the upper edge of the girdle. The lower edge of the back member ol? the brassire is indicated by the. line lll. and as will be apparent this portion of tl; brassire as well as the side members 30 and or thereof extend below the upper edge portions of the girdle.

As illustrated the bacl; of the brassire member is reinforced by a member 4:2 lying on the outer side thereo't and suitably connected thereto and also by a larger reinforcing member 43 lying on the inner side thereof and suitably connected thereto. In an apparel garment, a step-in girdle comprising a front member, a back member, and side members ot elastic material, a bras sire comprising a front member, a back member and side members all of inelastic material, the lower edge portions of the side members and the baclr member of the bras sire underlying the upper portions of the side members and back member of the girdle, the distant upper edge portions ot the back member of the girdle being permanently connected to the distant edges of the lower portions ot the back member of the brassire along substantially vertical lines each ex* tending from the upper edge of the girdle to the lower edge of the brassire the back member of the girdle being further permanently connected to the back of the brassire by elastic straps, the side members oit the girdle being otherwise unconnected to the side members of the brassire.

In an apparel garment, a step-in girdle comprising a front member, a back member, and side members of elastic material, a brassire comprising a front member, a back member and side members all of inelastic material, the lower portions of the back and side members of the brassire underlying the upper portions of the back member and side members of the girdle, the distant upper longitudinal edge portions of the back member of the girdle being permanently connected to the distant lower underlying longitudinal edge portions of the back member of the brassire by substantially vertical lines of stitching extending from the upper edge of the girdle to the lower edge of the brassire, the side members of the girdle being otherwise unconnected to the side members of the brassire, and means for permanently and yieldingly connecting the underlying edge portion of the back member of the brassire to the back member of the girdle, permitting the back member of the brassire to shift relatively to the back member of the girdle and to be returned and normally maintained in an initial position relatively thereto.

3. In an apparel garment, a girdle comprising a front member, a back member, and side members of elastic material, a brassire comprising a front member, a back member and side members all of inelastic material, the lower portions of the back and side members of the brassire underlying the upper portions of the back member and side members of the girdle, the distant upper edge portions of the back member of the girdle being permanently connected to the distant lower edge portions of the back member of the brassire from the upper edge of the girdle to the lower edge of the brassire, the side members of the girdle being otherwise unconnected to the side members of the brassire, and sets of elastic tapes each set thereof lying in a position distant from the center of the back member of the girdle, at one end permanently connected thereto, with the parts thereof diverging upwardly and connected to the lower edge portion of the back member of the brassire to apply an evenly distributed tension in the back member of the brassire, permitting the same to shift relatively to the back member of the girdle and causing the same to be returned and normally maintained in an initial position relatively thereto.
