COLLAPSIBLE PAPER HOLDER.
APPLICATION man NOV. 6. I918.

' A TTORNEYS JAMES BURTON FAULKNER, 0F CINCINNATI, OHIO.
COLLAPSIBLE PAPER-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 4:, 1919.
Application filed November 6, 1918. Serial No. 261,361.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES BURTON FAULKNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Paper-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in collapsible paper holders for holding the paper used in the master model stenotype, and the invention has for its object to provide a clevice of the character specified, that may be handled with one hand to turn and properly arrange the paper for transcription.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved holder;
Fig. 2 is'a similar view showing the commencement of the turning of the first fold;
Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the position of the paper at the end of the turning of the first fold;
.Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the position of the holder during the transcription of the second page of the first sheet; and
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55 of Fig. 1.
In the present embodiment of the invention, the improved holder consists of a pair of plates 1 and 2 of suitable material, as, for instance, thin wood or metal, which are arranged in inclined position as shown, being connected at one end, to form a substantially A-shaped structure.
The connection is by means of angular portions 3 and 4 of the plates, the said portions extending at acute angles to the plates and being adapted to lap upon each other as shown, with the portion 4: outside of the plate 1, while the portion 3 is on the inner side of the plate 2. The portion 4 has a tongue P which is adapted to engage a transverse slot in the plate 1, and the plates land 2 are thus locked in the position shown.
The plates 1 and 2 are held in properly spaced relation by means of a transverse brace or cross bar 5. The cross bar has tongues 6 which engage slots in the plates, and each plate 1 and 2 is provided at the end remote from the other plate and at its opposite side edges with extensions 7 which old the paper 8 in proper position in the plates.
The extensions of each plate incline in- Oopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the wardly toward each other as shown, in such manner that when the holder is in certain positions to be hereinafter mentioned the paper cannot become disengaged. Furthermore, there is provided a flange 9 on one of the extensions 7 of each plate, the said flanges 9 extending inwardly and engaging the bottom of the paper strips to be described.
In use, the paper 8 which carries the notes is placed upon the plate 2 in the manner shown in Fig. 2, and after the first page has been transcribed, the strip is turned over upon the outer face of the plate 1 as shown in Fig. 3. This being done, the holder may take the position of Fig. 4:, which brings the second page of the first sheet in position to transcribe. When the second page has been transcribed, the holder is turned back until it occupies the position of Fig. 1, after which the first page of the second sheet may be transcribed. When the second sheet is turned to bring the second page of the said sheet in position to transcribe, the holder again occupies the position of Fig. i. Thus that page being transcribed is always held in properly inclined position before the operator, and all of the operations may be performed with one hand. The bending of the side extensions or wings 7 prevents disengagement of the paper during the turning movement of the holder.
It will be evident that the webs 9 might be at the ends of the plates 1 and 2 instead of on the wings, if desired.
I claim:
A holder of the character specified comprising a pair of plates connected at one end and spaced apart at the other and adapted to support a series of paper strips, with one end of the strips on one plate and the other upon the other plate, each plate having outwardly extending flanges at its free end the flanges inclining inwardly toward each other, one of the flanges of each plate having an inwardly extending web at its outer edge adapted to engage the ends of the paper strips held on the plates, while permitting access to the said ends between the free edge of the web and the other flange.
