` IMPROVEMENT IN HAT-SHADES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 128,780, dated July 9, 1872.
erly stretching the same, as well as keeping it in position, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, Figure l represents an edge view of the shade as when in use, the crown of the hat being seen in dotted lines, and the view being a section of Fig. 2 on the line a:
Fig. 2 is a side view of the shade detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The shade B is made of linen, or any other suitable material, and is kept distended by the circular steel hoop A secured in the outer edge thereof. It is made double, the upper part C having a central aperture to receive the crown of the hat, and the lower part D being made with a somewhat larger opening. A11 elastic cord is secured to each part around its inner edge, and thus the tension of these, as opposed to the hoop A, keeps the shade distended so as to be flat and smooth. The cord in the upper part B serves also to keep the shade in. position by reason of its embracing the crown of the hat.
The mode of applying the shade to a hat is clearly shown in the drawing.
I claim- The improved shade, formed of the upper part C and lower partD provided with elastic cords around the inner edges, and With the hoop A around the outer edge, whereby it is adapted to be applied to a hat, as set forth.
MARCUS L. BATTLE.
