MOSES K. HOLT, OF HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENINGS FOR HAT-ELASTICS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,02], dated July 16,1878; application filed June 3, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MosEs K. HOLT, of Haverhill, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastenings for Hat- Elastics, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a view representing the outer side of one of my improved fastenin gs. Fig. 2 is a view representing the inner side of the same. Fig. 3 is a view representing the lower edge of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for securing the ends of an elastic cord or tape to ladies and childrens hats and bonnets, to prevent the necessity of sewing the ends of the elastic to the hat every time the said elastic wears out or breaks, and thus prevent the hat from being injured by so much sewing and ripping, and which at the same time shall be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and convenient and reliable in use.
The invention consists in the curved plate having a socket upon its inner or concave side, and provided with holes in its side parts to adapt it for use for securing the ends of elastics to ladies and childrens hats, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a plate curved in the shape of a section of a hollow cylinder, and having its lower end straight and its upper end rounded off. Upon the lower part of the inner or concave side of the plate A is formed a socket, B, open at both ends.
The plate A and socket B may be formed in two pieces, riveted, soldered, or otherwise attached to each other; or they may be made in one piece, as may be desired.
The device may be made of metal, hard rubber, or other suitable material.
The device A B is made with holes a in its side parts, so that it may be sewed to the hat or bonnet in the places where the ends of the elastic are now sewed. The ends of the elastic are passed up through the socket B, have knots formed upon them, and are then drawn back until the knots pass beneath the projecting upper part of the plate A.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The curved plate A. having socket B in the middle of its concavity, and provided with holes a on each side of the concavity, as and for the purpose specified.
MOSES KIMFALL HOLT.
