PETER JASINSKI, or WATERTOWN, NEW Y'onKL- COMBINATION-GARMENT.
Application filed July 19, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER JAsINsKI, a citizen of Poland, residing at Watertown, county of Jefferson, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garments and particularly those adapted to be worn outside of the ordinary clothing in the manner of an overcoat.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a garment which may be extended so as to be conveniently used as a sleeping bag by travelers, soldiers and the like, or which may be folded into position to be worn with comfort as an overcoat or like outer garment.
These purposes are attained by the novel design and construction of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a garment made in accordance with the invention, parts being extended and the view being taken. from the inner side thereof.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a plan view showing a slight modification in construction.
Fig. 5 is a partial vertical sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4, and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view, showing another modification in construction.
The garment is made of suitable textile fabric and consists of a back 10 from which extend side pieces 11, forming a skirt, these sides being turned upon themselves or doubled as at 12, one side being furnished with button holes 14 receptive of buttons 15, secured to the other side in an ordinary manner.
Openings 16 are formed through the side elements 11 near their upper ends receptive of the arms of the wearer, sleeves being omitted. At the top of the garment is affixed a downturned collar 18, which may be sewn to the upper portion of the material 10 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ov. Serial No. 245,616.
as shown in Fig. 1, or engaged by the spring clip fasteners 19 to their corresponding parts 20, secured to the upper marginal edge of the garment as shown in Fig. 4, the collar being held when the garment is in a closed position by a strip 21 secured to the upper margin of the sides.
An integral extension 28 is formed with the back 10, the same being adapted to act as a sleeping bag, while attached to the back and its extension is an outer covering 24, the lower portion 25 being turned upward with the back, and is seamed thereto along the edge 26, the extreme upper portion of the outer covering 24 being gathered, as at 28, so that the sleeping bag may be tightly closed when in use.
In the modification shown in Fig. 6, secured along the edges26 so as to extend between the backing l0 and outer covering 23, are coiled tensional springs 30 adapted to hold the engaged parts in relative close relation so that a bulky or disagreeable appearance is prevented, while attached to the backing and sides 10 and 11, are spring clip fasteners 31 engageable with their mating elements 32 secured to the lower margin of the bag when in an extended position, as can best be seen in Fig. 4.
From the foregoing it will be evident that when the device is extended as shown in Fig. 4, that a person may use the same as a sleeping bag, and when folded as shown in Fig. 1 the garment may be used as an overcoat, presenting from the exterior no objectionable appearance.
It is further understood that the garment may be used in the manner of a pneumatic mattress, the textile fabric of which it is manufactured being impervious to air and the bag capable of being inflated by a suitable air pump applied to the orifice 33 as shown in Fig. 5, whereby the garment may be inflated to its full capacity, acting as a pneumatic mattress and capable of sustaining the weight of a person using the same.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a garment of the class described, the combination with a back, side pieces formed therewith, openings at the upper portion of said side pieces adapted to receive the arms, plurality of coiled tensional springs extendmeans for securing said side pieces when in ing from said spaced covering to said back an adjusted position, a collar removably enwhereby they are held in intimate relation. gaged with the upper portion of said back, a In testimony whereof I have affixed my 5 spaced covering secured upon the inner side signature.
of said back, means for securing said spaced covering when in a folded position, and a PETER JASINSKI.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five its each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
