Be it known that I, EUGENE E. VANCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at ron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices adapted to be used for stretching neckties and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

An object of the invention is to provide a device of the character stated which is of simple and durable structure and which may be used to advantage for stretching a tie and for maintaining the same in its desired manufactured shape.

With this object in .view the device coinprises a casing with means for hanging the same upon a support and having a strip insertible therein. The said strip is rounded at its inner end and the strip may be covered with felt or other suitable soft material and the casing may be lined with a similar ma terial. A block is adapted to coperate with the said strip and the block is provided at its opposite sides with clamping devices adapted to receive the end portions of the tie and screws are threaded through the block and adapted to bear against the ends of the strip. The intermediate portion of the tie is passed around the strip and when the screws are tightened the tie is stretched along the strip and may be inserted in the casing whereby the tie is held in proper shape.

In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a side elevation of the tie stretcher.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same showing the tie in position therein.

The tie stretcher comprises a casing 1 which is preferably rectangular in transverse section and which is provided at its upper end with an eye 2 adapted to receive a nail or hook whereby the said casing may be suspended or supported. The casing l is lined at its inner side with felt or other suitable soft material as indicated at 4.

A block 5 is adapted to be used in conjunction with the casing l and a strip 6 is insertible in the casing l and adapted to traverse the length thereof. The strip 6 is provided upon its surfaces with soft material 7 as for instance felt and the upper end of the strip 6 is rounded as at 8. Bars 9 are located at the opposite sides of the block 5 and the said bars are provided at points between their ends with knobs l0. Pins ll pass through the end portions of the bars 9 and springs l2 are interposed between the heads of the pins 1l and the sides of the bars 9 and are under tension with a tendency to hold the said bars toward the sides of the block Screws 13 are threaded through the block 5 and adapted to bear at their ends against the lower end of the strip 6.

en it is desired to stretch a relatively long tie an operator grasps the knob l0 and moves the bar 9 away from the sides of the block 5. The end portions of the tie are then inserted under the bars 9 and the knobs l0 are released whereby the springs l2 come into play and force the bars 9 against the tie which is grasped between the said bars and the block 5. The strip 6 is then inserted between the sides of the intermediate portion of the tie and the screws 13 are tightened whereby the strip is moved longitudinally and the tie is stretched along the strip. The strip and tie are then inserted in the casing l and are held therein by friction and the casing may be swung up by passing the eye 2 over a nail or any other suitable support. Thus the tie is retained in position upon the strip and within the casing and when removed by reversing the operation above it is in proper shape to be applied to a collar er other article of apparel. Vhen it is desired to stretch a relatively short tie the tie is passed through an opening 3 provided in the strip 6 and when the same is inserted in the casing l the tie is moved up in the upper portion of the casing and held in proper Shape preparatory for wearing.

From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that a tie stretcher of simple and durable structure is provided and that the same may be used to advantage for maintaining al tie in proper condition for wearing about a collar or other article of apparel.

A tie stretcher comprising a Casing, a strip insertible in the casing` and adapted to lie between the opposite side portions of a tie, a block` spring pressed clamps located at the opposite sides of the block and adapted to secure the end portions of the tie against the block and screws threaded through the block and adapted to bea-r against the end portions of the strip.
