PINCUSHION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 12, 1912.
Application led August 29, 1911. Serial No. 646,580.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnnm'r VON DAAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented -new and useful Improvements in Iincushions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pincushions, and
has for an object to provide an article of this character which can be conveniently applied to the arm of a sewing machine and positioned thereon so that the pins will be exposed to the convenient reach of the user.
Another object of the invention is to rovide a main supportand a cushion mem er, the latter' being removably engaged with the former and being provided with means, whereby the cushion can be supported upon the clothing of its user.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this application and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views Figure l is a side view showing a portion of a sewing machine and illustrating the application of my invention thereto. Fig. 2 is a section therethrough on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3--3 of Fig. l.
' My improved pincushion comprises a supporting member 1 which is constructed of springy material of substantially U-form in cross section. This provides the opposite clamping arms 2 which are arranged at the opposite sides of the head A of the sewing machine shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
To prevent mai-ring of the machine and to provide a very etiective gripping surface which may operate to hold the device securely in its applied position to the arm, I provide the portions 2 of the supporting member with elastic surfaces 3 which are adapted to grip the opposite sides of the arm as shown 1n Fig. 2 of the drawing.
The member 1 is provided at the top with a substantially dovetail member or rib 4 which is designed to fit the correspondingly formed groove 5 in the cushion tray 6, the said tray having any suitable well known form ofcushion 7 therein. From this construction it will be seen that the cushion tray can be readily applied to or removed from the supporting member 1. In order that the cushion can bc supported from the clothing of the user when the tray is removed from the supporting member, I provide the tray withrelatively adjustable spring jaws 8 and 9, each being provided with an elastic gripping surface 10 to prevent the jaws from tearing or in any other Way destroying the clothing of the user. A suitable spring 11 is employed to hold the surfaces 10 yieldingly engaged with each other.
I claim:
A pincushion comprising a spring clamp member having a rib thereon, and a cushion tray having a groove removably receiving the said rib.
s In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
