L. C. SCHUTTE.
CUFF l.lNK..
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 4. I918.
Patented July 2, 11918 ATTORNEY m1: Nomus PETERS ca, Putnam-no" wasmuamu. nv c.
INVENTOR Lanna 0. 30mm, or nun inn, son'rn narrow-n.
CUFF-LINK.
L LWQ.
Application filed January 4, 1918. Serial No. 210,330.
To all whom it mayconccrn:
Be it known that I, Lanna C. SoHU'r'rn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hilland, of South Dakota have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cufl'-Links, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cuff links and the principal object thereof is to provide a cuff link which is durable and which may be formed from a single length of material, such as celluloid, gold, etc.
The second object of the invention is to provide a fastener of the above mentioned character which will effectively fasten the ends of the cuff together and which may be readily engaged and disengaged therefrom.
Another object of my invention is to pro-' vide a cuff link which is simple in construction, is inexpensive to manufacture, and which may be placed on the market at a minimum cost.
The above and other objects will be fully set forth in the following specification and the inventive features will be explicitly de fined in the appended claims.
The invention consists in the forms, arrangement-s, and details which will be here inafter specifically referred to and illnstrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cuff having my improved link applied thereto,
Fig. 52 is a view taken at the right hand or outer edge of the end,
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of 1, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective of my improved link.
Like characters of reference indicate like parts in all the views.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 5 designates a cuff which is one of the usual type.
However, the button holes in this cuff are formed differently than the conventional button hole.
In lieu of the conventional button hole, I provide a pair of parallel alined spaced slots 6 in each of the longitudinal edges of the cuff.
flat blank of resilient material which is extended to provide a rectangular head. 7 and bent transversely intermediately its ends as designated at 8 and extended re ersely and.
Specification of Letters Patent.
in the county of Haakon and State My improved button is formed from a Patented arena, ier;
at-an incline and thence bent again transversely as at 9 and extended reversely again or toward the'bend '8 and atan incline. This latter portion constitutes a tongue. That portion of the length of material be tween the bends 8 and 9 is provided with a slot 10 which is disposed near and extended transversely of the bend 9 and is adapted to receive the tongue when the link is in operative position as is clearly shown in Fig. 3. The longitudinal edges of the tongue and that portion of the blank between the bends 8 and 9 are beveled as illustrated in Fig. at.
In securing the cuff together, the tongue of my improved cufl link is inserted through the slots 6 in the and as shown in Fig. 3 and then engaged with the slot 10. It will be seen that when the parts are thus assembled it will be impossible for the ends of the cult to become separated. It will also be seen that the cuff link of this char actor will not be easily lost as is the case with cuff links of the eonventionaltype. The head 8 which is adapted to be worn upon the right hand side of the cuff also affords a surface for suitable initials.
From the above disclosure, it will be seen that I have provided a simple and etlieient cuff link which may be inanufactln'ed and sold at a minimum cost.
This embodiment of the invention is clearly illustrated and it is to be understood that the invention can be modified in many different respects, that may be fully e1nbodied in the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed, is
1. A cuff link formed from a length of sheet material bent intermediate its ends and extended reversely and thence bent again and again extended reversely to afford a tongue, and means for securing the tongue to the first reversely extending portion.
2. A cuff link formed from a length of sheet material bent intermediate its ends and extended reversely and thence bent again and again extended reversely to afford a tongue, and means for securing the tongue to the first reversely extending portion, said tongue having its longitudinal edges beveled.
3. A cuff link formed from a length of sheet material extended to provide a head andthence bent transversely and extended reversely at an incline, said length being thence bent transversely and extended reversely again to afiord a tongue, the first reversely extending portion being provided with a slot adapted to acconnnodate the tongue.
4C. The combination With a cufi' having i eeed el ned s i s t; its longi n l edgeof acufi link formed from a length of mitterial bent upon itself intermediate its ends and extended reversely and thence bent again transversely and extended reversely to uiford a tongue adapted for reception in the slots in the cufl', the first reverseiy extending portion being provided with a slot adapted to receive the tongue.
In testimony whereof I ufiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
