WILLIAM H. RILEY, JR., AND G. HERBERT FRENCH, OF NORTH ATTLE- BOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,854, dated May 12, 1885.
Application filed March 14, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, VVM. H. RILEY, J r., and G. HERBERT FRENCH, citizens of the United States, residents at North Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Cuff- Button and Sleeve-Pin; and we do declare the following to beta full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings-is a representation of this invention and is a perspective View. Fig. 2 is also a perspective view, and shows the device in use 011 cuff and sleeve.
This invention relates to ladies jewelry; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, all as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
The object of this invention is to provide safe and convenient fastenings for ladies cuffs.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a cuff-button of any ordinary plain or ornamental character having formed upon it an eye, B.
G is a cuff-pin which is also provided with an eye, as indicated at E.
F is a short chain which is connected by one end to the eye of the pin, and by the other to the eye of the cuff-button. In this manner the cuff-button and cuff-pin are connected, forming a fastening which will serve an excellent purpose in keeping the cuffin position as well as preventing the casual loss of the button.
The button A is applied in the button-holes of the cuff in the usual manner. The pin is fastened back on the sleeve, inside of which the back portion of the cuff is inserted. The chain holds the cuff in position, preventing it from falling beyond the end of the sleeve, and at the same time allows free movement of the cuff with the wrist. The necessity of forcing the pin through the starched folds of the cuff, which is often accomplished with great difficulty, is entirely avoided.
Having described this invention, what We claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The combination, with a cuff-button and a cuff-pin, of a short chain connecting said button to said pin, and formingafastening whereby the cuff is connected to the sleeve and held in relative position thereto, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
W. H. RILEY, JR. 7 G. H. FRENCH.
