To all whom'z't may concern:
Be it known that I, BELLA WELLHAUSEN, a-citizen of the United States, residing at Amite, in the parish of Tanipahoa and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Tatting- Shuttle Winders, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates broadly to a tatting shuttle holder and more. Specifically to a supporting device engageable with a shuttle, by means of whichthe sides of the latter may be separated to facilitate the placing of the thread therebetween.
Tatting shuttle as at present manufactured comprises a thread receiving post, to the opposite end of which the sides or flanges of the shuttle are connected. The sides or flanges are curved toward each other so that the points of one side are spaced from the points of the other side a distance barely sufficient to permit the passage of the thread therebetween. Therefore it will be seen that to take the shuttle in one hand and attempt to wind the thread beween the sides of the same with the other hand is, owing to the close proximity of said sides, a task both low and tedious, and one that can be quickly and efficiently performed only by those skilled from practice.
lVith the foregoing in mind, an object of the present invention is to provide means engageable with a shuttle for separating the sides of the same, to permit the thread to be readily placed therebetween.
Another object of this invention is to provide a supporting device of simple construction, which may be held in one hand and when engaged with a shuttle greatly facilitates the filling operation of the same.
A further object is to provide a device of the character described, which being formed of a single piece of material, bent to the shape necessary to its operation, constitutes an article of manufacture, which may be placed on the market at a minimum amount of cost.
The above and other objects and advantages of the invention will be in part described, and in part understood from the following description of the present preferred embodiment the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in

The free ends of the loops in their bent position form a support for a shuttle, and have the marginal edges thereof folded inwardly to embrace the marginal edges of the shuttle.
For a more detailed description reference is had to the drawing in which the numeral 1 indicates the device which is formed from a single strip of resilient metal, bent intermediate its ends as indicated at 2 to form a pair of spaced spring arms 3 and 4. The free ends of said arms 3 and 4 are enlarged, as indicated at 7 and shown to advantage, in Figs. 3 and 5, and are bentin reverse direction as at 8 to extend outwardly at substantially right angles to the arms 3 and 4. The said free ends 5 and 6 of the arms are preferably slightly inclined toward the junction of the arms 3 for a purpose hereinafter set forth, and have the marginal edges thereof folded inwardly to engage over the marginal edges of a tatting shuttle as indicated at 9 and advantageously shown in Fig. 2.
As is known to those familiar with the art the sides of the tatting shuttles in general use, have the marginal edges thereof so curved, as to present a fiat elliptical configuration, and with this in view the enlarged ends of applicants device, which sup:
