Be it known that I, WILLIAM GRAHAM, a citizen of the United States, 'residing at N ewaygo, in the county of Newaygo and State j of Michigan, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Ribbon-Holders; and v l do hereby declare the following to be a full,
` clear, and exact description of the invention, such; as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements yin ribbon-holders; and it consists in certain pcculiarities of construction, combinations, and arrangements of parts hereinafter more fully x5 described, and specifically set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View showing the device in use. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig.'3 is a cross sectional view; Fig. 4, a perspective view o f the spool, and Fig. 5 a similar view Y of the ribbon-clasp.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
'l Referring to the drawings, the numeral l designates the ribbon-ho1ding case consisting of two semicylindrical sections 2 3, each provided with allateral projecting flange 4, the flange of theformer being of a little less diam eterthan the iange of the latter and adapted to t into thel same, in order to connect the two sections together. The rim edges 5 of the two sections project alittle above the lateral flange portion thereof and form between them a guideway for the ribbon being unwound. The lateral flange of each section is provided with a' transverse opening, `which when the two are in coincidence forni a slot 6, through which the end of the' ribbon is adapted to project.
The spool 7 consists of a central core 8, around which the ribbon is wound, and two circular side pieces connected ,therewith and of relatively greater diameter than said core, forming projecting anges 9. T he spoolflanges are approximately of the same diame ter or nearly the same diameter as the inside of the ease and constitute a bearing for the said case to revolve upon and serve to protect both the edge and the surface of the ribbon,
thereby rendering it unnecessary to'wind paper with the ribbon to protect the same in the manner commonly employed.
o The case-sections are provided in their side portions with openings 10, which are in line or coincident with each other and expose the interior spool, so that the said spool may bc grasped by the thumb and finger to firmly hold it while the case is revolved to rewind on 'the spool any surplus ribbon that has been drawn out.
The clasp for holding the ribbon end consists of a substantially seinicircular piece of springlwire ll, adapted to fit around the pcriphery of the caseand by itsspring tension thereon hold itself in position. Each terminal end of the clasp isbent to form a downwardly-inclined transversely-extending retaining-loop 12, which is adapted to bear against the projecting end 13 of the ribbon and prevent the saine from being accidentally pulled out or drawn into the case, this construction obviating the employment of the pin commonly used, which distigures the ribbon end and renders it uniit for use. The clasp is formed with a spring-coil 14 adjoining each retaining-loop, in order to normally press the same downwardly to insure a firm l. in a ribbon-holder, the combination of a case formed of two semicylindrical sections.
