Description
PATENTED JULY '7, 1908.
/N//E/VTOR n//r/vfs 655 D3 5' VICTOR HENRY CANIIAM, OF GUELPH, ONTARIO, CANADA.
LABEL-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July '7, 1908.
Application filed November 26, 1907. Serial No. 403,983.
T0 all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Vieron HENRY CAN- HAM, of the city of Guelph, in the county of 'VVellingtom in the Province of Ontario,
Canada, manufacturer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label- I-Iolders, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in label holders, and the object of the invention is to devise a simple, convenient device whereby labels may be securelyT yet detachably affixed to the ends of piece goods in a strong and durable manner, and yet allow of the holder being readily changed after the goods have been used up and the label itself changed when the holder itself is attached to another piece of different goods and it consists essentially of the label holder proper provided with side guide ribs and bosses for the insertion and holding of the label in position, and a tongue having preferably a swinging member suitably secured to the label holder proper and. designed to be inserted between the material and the cloth board, the swinging member being preferably provided with a pointed projection on the under side whereby the label holder is held in position, the parts being arranged as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure l, is a perspective view of an end of a piece of goods showing the piece broken away in sectional perspective and the label holder in position. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal section through portion of a piece of goods and board showing the label holder in position. Fig. 3, is a detail of the label holder complete. Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are views of details.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is a piece of cloth and B the cloth board around which the same is wound.
Gis the label holder proper, which has ribs C formed on the top and bottom sides by preferably bending the metal at right angles to the back and then back again upon itself, so as to form a guiding rib as well as a hold fast rib.
C2 is a boss formed at the center of the back and designed when the label, which may be card board or other suitable material, is inserted to hold such label centrally in position in the label holder. The back C3 is provided with slits C, which are sprung, so as te permit the insertion in the bosses C5 of the open wire tongue D. This wire tongue is substantially V-shape in form and has right angular bends D, which are inserted through the slits C, as indicated. The wire is Vflattened at D2 and D3 at the top and bottom of the boss, so as to hold the angular bend in position. Y
The bend D'l shown in Fig. 3, is designed to p extend underneath the bottom edge of the end of the cloth board, and thereby prevent any tendency of the label holder being thrown out of position when the material is unwound from the board, and this bend prevents the tongue from passing out of the slits. It will be understood that the ends D4 of the wire D are bent after said wire is passed through the slits C.
E is a member swung on the inner end of the wire tongue D, such member being curled around the inner end of the tongue D and also being bent at the inner end and provided with a pointed projection E.
To insert my label holder in position I raise the end of the cloth next the cloth board B and then pass the label holder in the position in which it is shown in the drawing and press downwardly upon the outer or free end of the swinging member until the projection E passes into the wood of the cloth board when the label holder will be held securely in position. A suitable label may be inserted in the label holder proper C.
Such a label holder as I describe is simple, cheaply manufactured and durable and may be readily transferred from one piece of cloth to another when the cloth is used up. It also forms a means for holding a good clear label, thereby enabling the cloth to be readily picked out. It also lies close to the end of the board, is no inconvenience and is compact taking but little space at the end of the board.
What I claim as my invention is:
l. A label holder comprising a bar having side retaining guides and an open wire tongue suitably connected to the label holder proper and adapted to extend inwardly between the cloth board and the goods and a swinging member connected to the inner end of the wire tongue and provided at the free end with a pointed projection designed to Wire tongue having a right angular rojeoting portion extending through the slits and ing portion extending through the s its and bosses and provided with bent ends and flat- 10 bosses and provided With bent ends as and tened portions at the top and bottom of the for the purpose specified. slits as and for the purpose specified.
3. In Combination7 the label holder proper VICTOR HENRY CANHAM. provided with a pair of slits having bosses Witnesses: formed up between the slits and a V-shaped B. BOYD,
Wire tongue having a right angular projeet= R. GOBAIN.
