Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. it, 1191?.
Application filed November 18, 1916. Serial No. 132,158.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ULIA M. HovEY, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVashboard-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clamps, especially adapted for use in securing a wash board in position upon a laundry tub.
The object of the invention is to provide a clamp for quickly and easily securing a wash board in position upon a laundry tub, to prevent any movement of the said board when in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for pivotally securing the board upon the tub in order that it may be raised out of the way when desired.
With the above and other objects in view i the invention consists of a body member bifurcated to engage the rim of a laundry tub or other receptacle, a screw for clamping the member in position, and an attaching member pivoted to the body member, for the purpose of securing a wash board thereto.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of a laundry tub having a wash board secured into position by the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the tub illustrating the wash board in position within the tub in full lines, and raised in dotted lines;
Fig. 3 is a perspective of the device;
Fig. 4; is a sectional view illustrating the manner of pivotingthe attaching member to the body member.
Referring more specifically to the drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts there is shown at 1 a receptacle preferably in the form of an ordinary laundry tub. Secured in position for use in connection with the tub, is the usual wash board 2, said board having secured thereto upon its under side an attaching member 3. This member is of channel form in cross section, its'sides being perforated as at 4 for the reception of a pivot bolt 5. A collar 6 attached to or formed upon the bolt 5 serves in connection with the head 7 as a means for retaining the member 3 in position upon the bolt. The bolt is further provided with a right angled extension 7, said extension also having formed thereon a collar 8 and a head 9, by means of which it is secured to the body member 10.
The member 10 is bifurcated to form de pending legs 11 and 12, adapted to straddle the rim of the tub or receptacle, and a clamping bolt 13 having a swiveled head 14 is carried by the leg 12 in order to secure the body member firmly in position upon the rim of the tub.
From the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be seen that the invention provides a simple and eificient device for quickly clamping a wash board to a tub or other receptacle so that it will be securely held in place when in use. The invention also provides means for pivoting the board to the tub to enable it to be quickly raised to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 tobfacilitate the filling or emptying of the tu Various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be made-without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having described the invention, what I claim is The combination with a laundry tub, of means for securing a wash board thereto, said means comprising attaching plates each provided with spaced ears having alined openings therein, and adapted to be secured to the washboard, right angularly disposed inverted U-shaped clamping members adapted to be secured to the laundry tub, L-shaped members each having one of their arms SW1V- eled within said openings and the other arm swiveled within the right angularly disposed inverted U-shaped clamping members, whereby, said clamping members may be rotatably adjusted to pivotally mount the wash board upon tubs of various shapes.
