Description

E. GARVEN.
PAINT PAIL SUPPORTING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 20.1920.
Patented Nov. 29,; 1921.
5a fycw I INVENTQR 52am ATTORNEY ELMER GARVEN', 0F CO'UL'IERVILLE, ILLINOIS.
PAIN T-PAIL-SUPPORTING DEVICE.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER GARVEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coulterville, in the county of Randolph and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paint-Pail-Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a paint pail supporting device and has for its primary object the construction of a device of this character that will more efficiently support paint pails from a ladder and in such a manner that the paint pails will not obstruct the operations of the painter.
An object of the invention is the novel manner of supporting the paint pail so that the latter will automatically assume its level position irrespective of the inclinations of the ladder.
A feature of my invention is the use of an adjustable clamp for engaging an object in combination with an element that is pivot ally connected and weighted so as to assume at all times a vertical position.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the upper portion of a ladder showing my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating one construction. of my invention the nu meral 1 designates a clamp consisting of companion members 2 and 3 of a shape to engage around the ladder and secured in position by the screw 4;. To reinforce this connection I have illustrated the tongue 5 projecting from member 3 through the slot 6 in the other member. Rotatably connected to Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1921. 1920. Serial No. 397,763.
member 3 is a pin 7. It also has a pivotal connection 8 with the hook 9. The lower end of the hook is engaged by a weight, which in this particular instance, is a bucket or pail 10 that may contain sand or other articles used by the painter so as to give weight'thereto. This hook is provided with an extension 11 adapted to pass through a slot'l2 in the paint pail.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be apparent that I provide a device of simple construction which will properly support a paint pail within convenient reach of the painter and will automatically hold the same in a level position.
Another feature of this construction is that the paint pail may be supported at the very topof the ladder without coming in contact with the structure.
It is, of course, tobe understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not wish to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what Iclaim is:
1. A paint pail supporting device comprising an adjustable clamp, a pin projecting therefrom, and a Weighted hook pivot ally connected to the pin and having an extension adapted to engage a slot in a paint ail.
p 2. A paint pail supporting device comprising an adjustable clamp, a pin rotatably supported by the clamp, a hook pivotally connected to the pin and having an extension, a ballast bucket connected to the hook, and a paint pail having a slot for receiving said extension.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ELMER GARVEN.
