Patented Nov. 17, 1925.
JOHN E. ANDERSON, OFWAUKESHA, VISCONSN.
WRNGER CLALFIP.
Application filed January 12,
To all 107mm it may concern.'
Be it known that 19 Joran E. rinnnnson,
a citizenl of the United States, residing at- Vlaukesha, in the county of laukesha and State of lllisconsin, have invented certain new and useful improvements iu dlriuger Clan'ips. of which the fcllowu is a speciticaH tion.
T his invention has relation to supporting clamps and has for an object to provide a device which is designed to secure a wash wringer to the edge of a bath tub, sink r other fixture which would' ordinarily be unadaptable to receive the usual clamp means provided with wash wringers. y
Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of clamping means designed to engage the edge of a bath tub, sink or the like and which is designed to be engaged by the clamps provided upon the wash wringer so that the wringer may be supported over the bath tub, sink etc., and the water which is wrung from the clothing during the operation of the wringer permitted to fall into the receptacle upon which the wringer is supported.
1n addition to the foregoing this invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement` on arts to be hereinafter described and particularlyset forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar and corresponding parts are designated by the same characters of refernce throughout the several views in which they appear:
Figure 1 is a view in end elevation of` my improved clamping means illustrating the same applied to the edge of a bath tub, the'latter being shown in transverse section.
Figure 2 is a view of the wringer and clamping members in front elevation.
With reference to the drawings, 10 indicates generally a clothes wringer of conventional type and embodying the usual form of clamping members 11, of which two are usually provided. Each member consists generally of a jaw 12, and an arm. 13 eX- tending therefrom and threaded to receive a clamping` screw 1e which is usually provided with a swivel at one end to engage any object which may be inserted between said swivel and the jaw 12. My invention consists of a pair of supporting clamps as shown in the drawings, each of which con" sists of a straight bar 16 of strap iron or the Serial No. 528,717.
like and which is secured at one end to a relatively large U-shaped clamping'member 7, consisting of a long leg 18, a shorter leg 19, and a curved bght`20 connecting the same. rEhe end of the bar 1G secured to the clamping member at the juncture of the leg 18 with the curved portion 20. The inner surface of the leg 18 may be faced with cushioning material 21 if desired. A brace bar 22 is provided having one ond connected to the bar 16 at a point adjacent its outer end, and the other end of said bar 22 connected to the clamp at the juncture of the leg 19 with the curvedv portion 20, in this manner disposing the bar 16 and 22 at an angle to each other. rlhe bar 19 is reinforced by the provision of an enlargement 23 thereon and said bar and enlargement are apertured and internally threaded to receive a clamping screw 24. The outer end of said screw is enlarged to provide a hand gripping portion 25 while the opposite end is provided with a swivel 26.
1n use, a pair of such clamps are employed and the U-shaped portions are inverted over the edge of a bath tub, sink or the like having a relatively wide edge, and the screws 24 are tightened to clamp the sides of the bath tub beneath the rolled edge thereof between said swivel and the leg 18. The latter should be located upon the inner side of the tub. These clamping members are so spaced as to permit the jaws 12 of the clamping members of the wringers to be engaged upon the upper portions of the bar 16, and by tightening up the screws 14 the wringer is securely supported upon the upper ends of said clamping members.
Thus.y it will be seen that I have provided a novel device whichis particularly useful in apartments, small houses or other living quarters which are more or less restricted and in which receptacles such as bath tubs or the like are ordinarily utilizable to answer for laundry purposes. The clamping portion, being relatively large is thus capable of embracing edges of receptacles of various widths so as to readily support a wash wringer, or other device. Other uses and advantages will be readily apparent.
l/hile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity7 I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the detailsl of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement or the correlated parts Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire toV secure by United States Letters Patent is:
l. The combination With a clothes Wring'er including a pair of spaced attaching clamps, of a wringer attachment for permitting the connection of the Wringer with a bathtub including a pair of spaced vertically disposed inverted U-shaped clamps for engaging,` over the upper edge of the tub, each U-shaped clamp including ay pair of spaced parallel legs and an arcuate connecting ilpper portion, a. set of screws carried by one leg` of each U-shaped member for enga-ging' the tub, upwardly extendinfgl supporting arms secured to each ela-mp of the attachment and extending therefrom at an angle,
the upper ends of the arms being adapted to be received by the clamps of the clothes wringer.
2. A. closed Wringer support adapted for attachment to a tub, comprising a pair of inverted U-shaped members arranged in parallel relation, a threaded element carried by one leg oi'f each of the inverted- U-shaped members and adapted to engage With the tnb, a vertical arm secured to one leg of each of the inverted U-shaped members and disposed in longitudinal alignment with one leg of the latter, a brace element attached to the opposite leg oi? each oi the inverted U-shaped members and haring its upper end conn icted with its correspoiiding arm, the upper ends ot the arms being adapted to be engaged by a clamp of a detachable clothes wringer.
ln testimony whereof l aflix my signature.
