Description

1`. MORELAND ,T.`P.REAY, &1.M. LAZIER.
Improvement in WashzBO-Hers.
N0. v1211.608, Patentedh/'larchiZLlSZ-Z.1
JOSEPH MORELAND, THOMAS I). REAY, AND JOHN M. LAZIEB, OF MORGAN- TOWN, WEST VIRGINIA.
H'VPROVEMEN'I" EN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part` of Letters Patent No. 124,608, dated March 12, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we,JosnPH MORELAND, THos. P. REAY, and JOHN M. LAZIER, of Morgantown, in the county of Monongalia and in the State of West Virginia, have invented cervtain new and useful Improvements in Wash- 4 which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure lis a longitudinal vertical section of our entire boiler. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the interior fixtures; ,and1 Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the cap.
A represents the boiler, made of any suit able shape and dimensions. Upon the bottom thereof is placed a rim, B, which is V-shaped in its cross-section, or, in other words, it contracts toward the center, both from its upper and lower edges, making both the inner and outer circumference gradually less toward the center of the rim. Upon or in this rim the entire attachment is placed, said attachment being' constructed as follows: O represents a perforated bottom, connected by pins a a with a solid bottom, D, a short distance below, said pins passing through the lower bottom to form feet, upon which the attachment is supported on the bottom of the boiler. The solid bottom'D is smaller in circumference than the perforated bottom G, and of such a size as to ,leave a space between its outer circumference and the inner circumference at the center of the V-shaped rim B, while the upper or perforated bottom C rests upon the rim B immediately below the upper edge. Through the centers of the bottoms C and D passes an-oblong tapering tube, E, provided with a cap, H, the crown of which extends on all four sides beyond the sides of the tube, and the under side perforated for the passage of the steam and water down upon the clothes. The under side of the crown of the cap H may be curved, as shown in Fig. vl, or beveled straight, as shown in Fig. 3. From the perforated bottom C rise a number of conical perforated tubes, G Gr. The V-shaped rim B inclines the water toward the center tube E, and, as the water comes back from the top, it will also convey it toward the center. It forms an additional supf port for the perforated bottom, and does away with the necessity of wiring said bottom; or, in other words, it lies on the bottom of the boiler and prevents the water from boiling up the sides, and has a tendency to throw and draw the water to the center tube, thereby increasing the volume of the fountain. The small tubes G Ur throw water and steam and keep the clothes loose.v
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The V-shaped rim B, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the perforated bottom C, solid bottom D, tube E, pins a a, and cap H, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination of the boiler A, rim B, bottoms C and D, and tubes E and G G, pins a a, and cap H, all constructed and arranged as shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands vthis 18th day of January, 1872.
JOSEPH MORELAND. THOMAS P. BEAY. J. M. LAZIER.
