Description
J. D. KENNARD.
Chimney-Top.
No. 128,633.` l v Pafentedxuly 2,1872,
UNITEn S'rn'rns PATENT @union JESSE D. KENNABD, OF BAENESVILLE, OHIO.-
IMPROVEMENT IN CHIVNEV-TOPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,633, dated July 2, 1872.
SPEOIFIGATIQN.
To whom tt 'may concern: I
Be it known that I, Jussn D. KENNARD, of Barnesville, in the county of Belmont and Stateof Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chimney-Top or Stack Pipe; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of refer-y ence marked thereon which form a part of this speciiication.
The nature of my invention-consists in the construction and arrangement of a chimneytop or stack pipe, to be placed on a chimney or stack, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which is a longitudinal vertical section of my improved chimney-top.
A represents a tube of any suitable dimensions, provided near its lower end on the outside With 4flanges a a, by means-of which the chimney-top is fastened to the chimney or stack. The upper end ofthe tube A extends up into the band B of the conical cap C, said cap being supported by arms b b from the interior of the tube, and the band extending downward from the outer edges of the cap.
The band B is of such diameter as to leave aspace between it and the outside of the tube. 'lo the outside of the tube A is attached a cup, D, which projects upward outside of the cap-band B, increasing the draught and preventing the sparks from escaping. In the conical cap (l, and near the outer or lower edge, are circular openings d d, for admission of air to increase the draught. In the lower edge of the cup D, where the same joins the tube A, is a number of small openings, t' t, to allow the water (from rain or snow) to pass through, said water falling upon an inclined apron, E, attached to the tube A, below the cup.
This chimney-top may be made of sheet iron or other metal, or of re-clay. When made of metal, the various parts are attached together by means of rivets.
Having thus fully'described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the tube A with ianges a a, conical cap G with openings d d., and band B, the cup D with openingst' i, and the apron E, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JESSE l). KENNARD.
