Description
JOHNSTON.
Wash-Boilers.
Patented July 14, 1874.
MC/Mwh UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
WILLIAM S. JOHNSTON, OF OORNING, IOWA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, VILLIAM DUNCAN, AND JOHN BIXBY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,083, dated July 14, 187i; application filed May 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. S. JOHNSTON, of Corning, in the county of Adams and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Washers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forni part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an attachment for wash-boilers, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a plan View; Fig. 2, a central longitudinal section; and Fig. 3, a vertical crosssection.
A represents an oblong conical tube or cone, of any suitable dimensions, from the lower end ot which projects a flange or rim, B. This iiange extends around all sides of the cone, and is concave on its under side, as shown.
The attachment A B, as thus constructed,
may be used in any wash-boiler ot' ordinary construction, and is to be placed on top of the clothes in the boiler.
The flange or rim B will concentrate the heated water in the center and cause it to rise through the cone or conical tube A, and the water, falling down over the top of the iiange, will iiow down the sides of the boiler to the bottom below the clothes, and ris again through them, thus producing a steady current of heated water through the articles to be washed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The wash boiler -attachment herein described, consisting of the cone A and ila-nge or rim B, when placed on top of the clothes in the boiler, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
W. S. JOHNSTON.
