Description

PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE J. LEAOH, Oll ROME, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,373, dated September 26, 1871.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE J. LEAGH, of Rome,
l in the county of Oneida and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wash-Boiler; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a waslrboiler, as Will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring tothe annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of my boiler. Fig. 3 shows a grating to be attached on the inside of the lid or cover.
i A represents a boiler of any suitable construction provided with the usual lid or cover B. Inside of the boiler `A is a false bottom, G, provided with a downward-projecting rim to rest upon the bottom of the boiler. At each end of the false bottom O is a vertical pipe, D, closed at the top and perforated on the inner side so as to allow the steam, suds, and hot water to be thrown in numerous small streams upon the clothes. Two similar pipes, Dl D', are arranged on each side of the false bottom C, and these pipes on each side are connected loyV another pipe, E, which is kraised in the center and sloping downward toward each end and top of pipes D D. The pipes E E are also perforated on their inner sides for the same purpose, as above mentioned. By this means every part of the clothes will be brought under the action of the streams of suds and hot water. The false bottom C is provided with a series of slots, a a, running transversely across the bottom so as to allow the water to pass down again under the bottom; and longitudinally on top of the bottom O are V-shaped ribs b b running across the slots a a so as to prevent the clothes from clogging up said slots. On the under or inner side of the lid B is arranged a grating, G, which should extend below the upper ends of the perforated tubes. This grating prevents the clothes from being forced upward above said tubes, which is very necessary, for if they were they would not only be liable to clog up the tubes, but would also be removed from the immediate action of the suds and hot Water.
s Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of a boiler, A, bottom G with slots a a and ribs b b, perforated tubes D D E, and grating Gr in the lid B, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of June, 1871. Witnesses: G. J. LEAOH.

R. J. FISE.
