Description

W. B. DOTY. Steam Water Elevator.
No. 202,248. Patented April 9, 1878.
:r'" s llllgluu fin;
Jn'renivk amlww UNITED STATES WILLIAM B. DOTY, OF OHILLIOOTHE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM WATER-ELEVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
January To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. B. DOTY, of Chillicothe, in the county ofRoss and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam Water-Elevators and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a double-actin g steam water-elevator, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a central vertical section of my double-acting steam water-elevator.
A and B represent two cylinders or globes, of unequal size, connected together by a tube or passage, 0, leading from the top of the lower larger globe A into the bottom of the upper smaller globe B.
D represents the steam-pipe, leading into the bottom of the lower globe or cylinder A, and provided within the same with an upwardlyprojecting nozzle, to. From the steam-pipe D leads a branch pipe, D, into the upper cylinder or globe B, where said branch pipe is provided with a nozzle, 1). The branch pipe D is provided with a globe-valve, F, to regulate the steam in the upper cylinder.
202,249, dated April 9, 1878; application filed 24, 1878.
G is the water-pipe, which connects with the side of the lower larger cylinder or globe A. The two nozzles a and b are thus independent of each other.
Iam aware that a single cylinder with steamnozzle for elevating water is not new, and I do not claim such as my invention.
By the application of a second cylinder and independent nozzle the water will be sent with more force and elevated to a far greater height, and by means of the valve F on the outside the operator can temper the water as desired.
I am also aware that a steam water-elevator with two chambers, each having a steam-nozzle, is, broadly, not new.
Having thus fully described my invention, whatl claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the large globe or chamber A with water-inlet G, the smaller globe or chamber B, the neck 0 connecting the two globes, steam-pipe D with nozzle a, and the branch steam-pipe I) with valve F and nozzle b, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own 1 aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
hi WILLIAM B. DOTY.
