JOSEPH THAYER, OF TOPEKA, KANSAS, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGN-y MENT, OF ONE-FOURTH INTEREST, TO ELIZA S. SMITH, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAND-EJECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,507, dated April 1, 1873; application filed January 3, 1873,
To all whom it may concer/n:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH THAYER, of the city of Topeka, in the county of Shawnee and Sta-tey of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Sand-Ejector; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification- Figure 1 is a vertical section of my ejector.. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same on the line Y Z, Fig. 1.
G represents the water-pipe, having its lower end lturned upward, and ou which are formed the jet-tubes B, arranged in a circle around the central one C, through which the water is forced upward into the ascending pipe H. Screwed through the bottom of the pipe Gis a tube, D, which extends a short distance up into the tube C, and through which a currentrof compressed air is forced. The sand and earth which is to be raised is packed around the lower part of the pipe G, and when the combined current ot' water and air is forced upward through the jet-tubes, the earth and sand are sucked through the openings E, forced upward into the chamber K, and vthence up through the pipeH to the surface. i
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The jet-tubes B arranged around the central tube O, substantially as specified.
2. The tubes B C D, when combined with ythe tubes G H, substantially as set forth.
JOSEPH THAYER.
