INVENTOR WITNESSES mix ATTORNEY nvnnnrr E. nonmson. on enemy cnmnn, IOWA.

reaaeea.
To all whom it may concern:
Be i known that I, Evnnarr E. RoBmsoN, a citizen of the United States, residingat Grundy Center, in the county of Grundy and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Supports, of'which the following is a specificatlon.
weight carrying members, and one whose.
several parts may be removed from their operative position for placing in storage.
. The invention, broadly stated, comprises a standard, a permanent socket and a brace therefor end of the standard, which hook is adapted to cooperate with a spreader member having side elements, a spacingelement cooperating with one end of each of the side elements, weight carryingmembers connected 1 to the spreader,- and a brace connected to the spacing element and slidably secured to the standard, said brace operating to revent rotation of the spreader member w en in one position, and when in other positions serves to rotate the spreader. v
One practical formof: construction and assembly will be described and illustrated in the accompanyingv drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one as sembled support;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a support as utilized for swinging a hammock; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail of the spreader member.
In the preferred embodiment shown, a concrete foot 5 is .provided with a socket that may also have a lining as indicated at 6, so as to prevent the chipping or enlarging of the socket hole. This concrete foot may be positioned in the ground at some Specification of Letters Patent.

oot and a com anion foot will probably be. placed inthe ack-yard of a dwelling at suitable points, I I Adapted to be inserted .within the soeket formed of iron pipe or some material having a similar shape of sufiicient strength and rigidity. The standard 7 may be of a any suitable or convenient type that is eflicient for the purpose for which it is designed. To maintain the standard 7 in a vertlcal plane and also to assist in taking up strain, there an angular end 8 carrying thereon suitable threads 9. To cooperate withthese threads there is em loyed a lockingvnut indicated by the nut an its handle 10.
is provided a brace which is provided with.
The body portion 11 ofthe brace is connected to the angular portion 8 and terminatesin B1 hook ThlS hook 12 cotigerates with an eye .13 that is permanently em edded in a concrete foot block 14, that is suitably spaced away from the concrete foot block 5.
Near the upper end of the standard 7, there is provided a suitable aperture through which passes a hookbolt indicated -at. 15.
having the'threads 16 formed thereon.- To
cooperate with these threads there is anut.
having a handle indicated at 17. The hook part of this .bolt is indicated at 18.
To cooperate with this hook '18, there is a spreader member, which has the side elements 19 and 20. -The side element lQ-is.
providedwith an eye 21 at one end, and=at the other end with a similar eye indicated at 22. The side element 20 is provided withan eye 23,.and at its other end there is a similar.
eye at- 24 and .23, respectively." To cotiperate with the eyes 22 and 24 and 23,
ment may be of suitable form so as to maintain the side elements 19 and 20 through the eyes 22 and 23 in a suitable spaced relation.
Adjustably mounted upon the standard 7 is a collar 26 that is providedwith suitable means to clamp it or retain it in any position upon the standard and is also rovided with a suitable connection 27 w ere the brace 28 is connected thereto. The other end of this brace 28 may be provided with an eye indicated at 29 to cooperate with the spacing respectively, there is arspacingelementindicated at 25. The ends of this spacing elelining6 is a standard 7, which is preferably.
22. The line 32 is connected to the eye 23 and the line 33 is connected to the hook 18 of'the hook bolt 15.
in order to use this support as a hammock support, the spreader member with its brace and collar are removed from engagement with the standard and the hook 181 Then the eye formed on and carried by the hammock ma be attached to the hook 18, and b means 0 the handled nut 17 the hammoc may be adjustedin several positions, and
also be securely held. The handled nut 17 operating on the threads 16 formed on the eye-bolt 15 serves to position the hammock in several horizpntal planes.
The movement of the handled nut 17 upon the threads by utilizing the spreader member serves to loosen or tighten the several clothes lines.
Secured to the standard 7 is,a suitable receptacle which may be made of galvanized iron to provide a water and dust-proof clothes pin box. The body of the box or receptacle is indicated at 34, and the lid there for at 35. The lid 35 is preferably" hinged to the receptacle portion at the rear end adjacent the standard}, the hinges being indicated! at 36.
Inorder to maintain the lid 35 ina raised position, the arm 37- maybe employed which is of the usual type of construction employing elongated; slot cooperating-with a pin. The arm 37 maybe hingedly connected to the top 35 in the usual manner. The top 35 is also provided witlr'downward-ly' directed flanges, indicated at 38, which serve as drip edges to prevent moisture from entering into the receptacle 34.
The receptacle 34 may be provided with any usual type of connection so that it ma be adjustably secured to the standard One type of connectionshownis that of a hinged collar, including a thumb screw, the assembly of which is indicated at Minorchanges in the form, proportions,
and details of construction maybe resorted to, without departiugf-ronr the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims- .YVhat is claimed as new is 1-. En; a device of the character" described, the combination with a standard and socket therefor and a: brace for said standard, a removable and foldable spreader member. for the clothes line, meansadjustable longitudinally for connecting the spreader to the standard, and adjustable retaining means. interposed between the standard" and the spreader member.
2 In a device of the character'descrihed, the combination with" a standard and socket therefor, of a foldable, and removable spreader member having its elements loose connected together, means, adjustable lon tudinally for connecting, the spreader tot e, standard, and brace slidably'secured to the standard and the spreader member sothat the said spreader may be partially rotated by the movements of the latter brace and retained in a; plurality of positions. i
3. A device of the character described comprising a standard, a spreader memher adjustably and removably secured to the: standard and having side elements provided.
withfeye ends, and a spacing el'mentconf nectedwith one eye of each er the side elements, and a brace slidable on thelstandard' including engaging and retaining means for the standard, said brace being connected In testimony whereof I afix mv signatu e.
