Application November 5, 1934, serial N. 751315 6 claims. (Cl. ss-35') A 5 This invention has reference to means for supporting a tub or the like within convenient reach of a launderer for receiving washed clothes or the like either prior to or after the clotheshave been run through the wringer.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will serve advana tageously as an attachment for an electric washing machine and in a manner to provide an eiicient stand or bench for a washtub, clothes basket, or like receptacle.
A still further object is Vto provide a bench of this character which will take up little space and which can be attached directly to some part of the electric washing machine.
A device of .this character will also be found useful for many other purposes and where used', as above suggested, for laundry purposes can, of course, be used with either electric washing ma chines, stationary-wash tubs, and/or otherwise found desirable.
The invention, together with its objects and advantages, will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view illustrating the application of the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figures 3 and '4 are detail views taken substantially on the lines 3-3 and 4-4 respectively of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of an attaching member.
Figure 6 is an elevational View of one end of the bench.
Figure 7 is a similar view of of the bench. e
Figure 8 is a perspective view of the top inember of the bench.
Figure 9 is a perspective view of a brace mem'- ber.
Figure 10 is a perspective view of a socket equipped Y-member.
Figure 1l is a perspective View of a second attaching member.
Figure 12 is a perspective view of a second Y brace member.
With reference to the drawings by numerals it will be seen that the bench comprises a top member I, the same being in the form of a rectangular frame formed of angle iron and having the ends thereof connected by slightly spaced parallel angle iron guide members 2 having extensions 2a continuing longitudinally beyond one end of the top I as clearly shown in Figure 8.
the yopposite end Y A 'substantially rfl-shaped member 3 has the legs` thereof "terminating 'in parallelism and bolted to the sides of the top I at one'end thereof as at 4. i t
The iff-member 3 at its stem is provided with a socket 5 that accommodates the upperend of a supporting leg or standard 6 that is secured in engagement with the socket through the medium of a thumb screw 'Il On the lower Send thereof the leg 8 is provided Withfa caster 8.
A second -Y member 9 has the free ends of its legs: 'orf' branches 'disposed in parallelism and bolted or. otherwisesecured as at I0 to the sides 'of the frame I at the end thereof opposite to the Y rneniberl f y; l
Aninclined or diagonal brace II has diverging branches IIa terminating in parallel ends that are .adjustably connected with the sides of the frame I through the medium of bolts I2 engaging the ends of the branches I la and selected open'- ings of a'se'ries of openings I3 provided inthe sides.. of the frame or top member I. The `stem ySla'of'tliie Y 9 is accommodated in the crotch between the converging ends of the branches I Ia of the'brace IIi The brace II is connected with the stem 9a of the Ymember 9 through the medium of a bolt I Il engaging in transversely alined openings provided. in the converging ends of the branches I I a, and also engaging in a selected one of a series of openings I5 provided in the stern of the Y 9.
TheYemember 3 is braced with respect to the brace member II by a brace rod I6 that at one end is pivoted between a pair of spaced ears i3 provided on one side of the socket 5 of the Y 3, and which brace member has its opposite ends provided with a series of openings to accommodate" a bolt I9 through the medium of which said end of the brace rod I6 is adjustably connected with the brace II. I
An attaching member 20 consists of a substantially ifight-angled pin provided on one end of avi-lat shank y2I. The shank 2lY is accommodated in the space between the extensions 2a associated with the top` I and is secured to the extensions by bolts or other suitable fastening devices 22.
A second attaching member 23 consists of an angular pin provided on one end of a dat shank 24 that is tapered and merges with the pin 2S at the smallest end of the shank. The shank 2s is pivoted in a notch 25 provided in the free end of the brace member II through the medium of a pivot bolt 26. At its widest end the shankZi is provided with an arcuate notch 2l that accommodates a bolt 28 that spans the notch 25 and PATENT lcjiiilfr'les L which serves to hold the shank 24 at the desired angular or rotative adjustment.
For cooperation with the attaching members 2 and 23 there are provided apertured lugs or sockets 29, each of which is equipped with suitable means, in the present instance, a two-part clamp 30 for attachment to a suitable support 3l, as for example the leg of an electric washing machine or the usual pipe that leads to the wringer, or to any other handy or suitable part of the washing machine and/or support, depending upon the use to which the bench is to be put.
Slidably supported by the top l of the bench is a sliding seat 32 provided for the placement thereon of the wash tub, basket or the like. The seat or slide member 32 may be of Vany suitable shape, construction or design and in thepresent instance is formed of metal, isv circularand of wheel or spider design. At its hub or center, the member 32 is provided with a dependingthreaded pin or bolt 33 that operates in the slot or space provided between the guide members 2 associated with the frame or top member l. A nut 34 is threadedly engaged with the bolt or pin 33 and when threadedA home on the bolt into binding engagement with the guide members 2 2 will serve to secure the seat or `slide 32 at' the desired adjustment on the bench top or frame member I. In this connection it will also be apparent that when the nut 34 is loose on the bolt or pin 33,V
the seat or slide member 32 may be rotated as well as slid back and forth lengthwise of the bench.
It will also be apparent, that by sliding the socket 5 on the leg or post 6, and the clamp 30 on the support 3l, the top I of the bench may be either raised or lowered to the desired elevation.
