Description

May 3, 1949.
,1. B. N'ElsER CLOTHES DRIER Filedv Jan. 14. 1947 Patented May 3, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CLOTHES DRIER Joseph B. Neiser, Oakland, Calif. Application January 14, 1947, Serial No. 721,908
1 Claim.
This invention relates to clothes driers of the portable type, the primary object of the invention being to provide a clothes drier which may be easily hung in a bath room or similar place for drying small articles, such as socks, stockings, handkerchiefs or the like.
An important object of the invention is to provide a clothes drier of this character which may be readily and easily dismantled and folded into a small and compact article for storing, and one which can be readily erected to accomplish the drying of articles supported thereby.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clothes drier having twisted lines, so arranged that the articles to be dried may be positioned between the twists of the lines, to hold the articles to the lines without the use of clothes pins or similar securing means.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, which Will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement o-f parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a clothes drier constructed'in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the drier.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the drier comprises a frame made up of detachable sections and comprises transverse end bars 5, which are formed With notches 6 in the upper surfaces thereof, which notches are fitted in notches formed adjacent to the ends of a central spacing bar l, which operates to hold the transverse end bars spaced apart at all times.
Hook arms 8 have their lower ends connected with the transverse end bars 5, and are engaged by the brace rods 9, which are also detachably connected to the transverse end bars 5, brace rods 9 having hooks at their free upper ends, which hooks hook into the offset keepers l and Il formed on the hook arms 8. Thus, it will be seen that the hook arms may be secured in various positions with respect to the frame proper, to adapt the device for support in various restricted areas.
Hooks I2 are formed at the upper ends of the arms 8 and adapted to hook over a rod or hook secured to a supporting surface, for supporting the drier.
Should it be desired to use the drier with one side thereof engaging the Wall and the opposite side thereof extending outwardly from the wall, hooks at the ends of the brace rods 9 will be positioned in the keepers I which will allow the hook arms 8 to extend above one edge of the frame, as clearly shown by Figure 2.
Should it be desired to hang the hook arms over a line, the brace rods 9 will be positioned as shown in full lines in Figure 2, which Will support the drier or frame in a hanging balanced position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a clothes drier in the form of a hanging frame which may be readily and easily collapsed or folded into a small and compact article when not in use and one which can be readily extended for drying purposes.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A portable article drying rack, comprising a frame, including a central spacing bar, end bars removably connected with the central spacing bar at the ends of the spacing bar, elongated hook members pivotally connected to the transversely extended end bars at one side of the central spacing bar, brace rods pivotally connected to the transversely disposed end bars at the opposite side of the central spacing bar and cooperating with means on the hook bars in securing the hook bars in various angular positions of adjustment with respect to the transversely disposed end bars, and lines connecting the transversely disposed end bars, on which articles are adapted to be secured.
