Description

B. w. MOORE- CLOTHES DRIER June 25,` 1940.
Filed arch 2, 1939 Patented June 25, 1940 UNITED! STATES CLOTHES DRIER Buel Willard Moore, Venice, Calif.
Application March 2,
1 Claim.
'I'his invention relates generally to improvements in clothes driers and has particular reference to a portable and foldable clothes drierl that may be hung upon the wall of any room oi a dwelling for the purpose of quickly and easily drying washed clothes of any character.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a portable and collapsible clothes drier that may be suspended from the wall of any dwelling and that includes means for the retention of washed clothing or garments of any sort, whereby a considerable number of these garments may be attached to the drier and suspended over any drying medium, such as a radiator or a stove, or may be suspended from the wall of any room Without heat, if desired.
Another object of the invention is mproviae a clothes drier of the class set forth that will accommodate a great number of washed pieces of clothing or garments in a small space and that may be folded flat when not in use and stored in any convenient place, such as a closet or like storage place.
A further object of the invention is to produce a drier of this class that is provided with exible suspension elements that will positively hold the drier frame in a rigid suspended position upon the wall of a room and inrsuch a position that the washed garments may be readily attached thereto and detached therefrom.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a drier that includes a simple rectangular frame in the iormof a parallelogram, pivoted at its four corners and having a plurality of garment gripping pins pivotally positioned upon the sides and on one end of said frame. Y
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part Aof this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the improved drier as it would appear suspended from `the wall of a structure;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same;
Fig'. 3 is a side view of the drier frame as it would appear when folded, the garment gripping pins being omitted to clarify the showing; and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional detail of the frame structure and illustrates the method of attaching the clothespins to the frame.
A clothes drier constructed in accordance with the present invention is particularly suitable for small apartments or rooms, as it may be readily suspended from the wall in any suitable place 1939, Serial No. 259,469 (Cl. B11-89) and may be removed and stored away when not in use.
'I'he invention contemplates the use of a wooden or metal frame consisting of side bars 5 and 6 pivoted at the corners to end bars .'I and 8 by 5 means of suitable bolts 9 so that the entire frame may be collapsed to the position shown in Fig. 3.
Pivoted upon the side bars 5 and 6 and arranged in spaced relation are a plurality of ordinary spring clothespins I 0, pivoted to said bars 10 by means of nails or pins II, which are inserted through the spring coils of the pins.
'I'he means for supporting the rack or drier as thus formed consists of a cordIZ having a looped section I3 and having its free ends extend- 15 ing through openings formed in the bar 1, said openings being arranged in close proximity to the bolts 9, and the ends of the cord being knotted as at I4. A second cord I5 is provided with a loop I6 and has its free ends extending through 20 `openings in the end bar 8, said ends being knotted as indicated at I1.
A hook I8 is placed in the Wall I9 of the struc-v ture; and when the loops I3 and I6 are placed upon the hook, the bar 1 of the drier will abut 25 against the Wall, and the frame will be held in a horizontal position, as disclosed in Fig. 1.
It will thus be observed that I have provided a simple, compact drier that will hold a considerable number of washed garments, and that may be easily placed in position, and that may also be readily removed and folded when notin use.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and .described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
',I-Iaving thus described my invention, I claim;I 40
A clothes drier of the character described, comprising a rectangular foldable frame including side bars and end bars, clothes gripping pins pivoted to said side bars and one of said end bars,
a llexible cable connected at its ends to one end 45 barvadjacent the side bars and having an eye formed therein intermediate its ends, anda second flexible cable having its ends connected to the opposite end bar adjacent the side bars and of a length greater than the first mentioned' 50 ilexible cable and having an eye intermediate its ends, whereby the drier may be supported on end laterally from and against a ilat surface by application of said eyes to a single hook disposed above the point of contact of said frame with 55 said surface.
