Babcock [5 7] ABSTRACT A first wire clothes hanger capable of being used as such, and that has a support for a number of second clothes hangers pivotally connected thereto, with the support capable of occupying an overlying position on the first clothes hanger when not in use and the first clothes hanger and support when so disposed occupying a minimum of space when stored.
The support permits a number of second clothes hangers to be removably supported parallel to one another in laterally spaced relationship, and is particularly useful in either the drip drying of garments of supporting a number of garments in a confined space such as a small closet.
1 Claim, 6 Drawing Figures MULTI-PURPOSE CLOTHES HANGER COMBINATION BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION hanger, such as from an elevated shower head supporting pipe. In the past there has been no simple, inexpensive means for achieving such an objective.
A primary object in devising the present invention is to supply a clothes hanger assembly that may be folded into a compact configuration when not in use, and one capable of supporting either a single garment on a first clothes hanger thereof, or a number of garments in parallel laterally spaced relationship when the assembly is expanded and the garments are mounted on second clothes hangers that are removably secured to the assembly.
embodies a hook C capable of removably engaging a rod or other elevated object C such as a shower head supporting pipe D illustrated in FIG. 5, and the hook having two oppositely directed downwardly tapering arms on the bottom thereof, with these arms devel: oping into a cross piece 12 on their lower ends as may best be seen in FIG. 1. A wire V-shaped member E is provided as shown in FIG. 1, that includes two upwardly tapering legs 14 which legs 14 have eyes 16 formed on the upper portion thereof that pivotally engage the cross piece 12. The V-shaped member E at the apex thereof, defines an eye 18 and each of the legs 14 along the longitudinal length thereof are bent to define Another object of the invention is to furnish an assembly that permits a number of garments to be supported in parallel laterally spaced relationship relative to a fixed object such as a shower head supporting pipe.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A first wire clothes hanger of the type that includes a cross bar engaging wire hook that has two oppositely disposed wire arms depending downwardly therefrom at an angle, and the lower ends of the arms being connected by a wire cross piece. A V-shaped wire support is provided that is pivotally connected to opposite ends of the cross piece, and the wire support defining a number of longitudinally spaced engageable means'thereof, such as hooks or eyes. The hooks or eyes are capable of being removably engaged by the hooks of a number of second wire clothes hangers, and when so engaged, a number of garments may be supported from the second wire clothes hangers in parallel laterally spaced relationship.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of the invention in an expanded position;
FIG. 2 is an end elevational view of the device shown in FIG. 1;
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The invention A as may best be seen in FIG. 1, includes a conventional first wire clothes hanger B that a hook engageable means 20, with these hook engageable means being illustrated in FIG. 1 as hooks. However, the hook engageable means 20 may be eyes similar to the eye 18 if desired.
In FIG. 6 it will be seen that when the invention is being carried on a trip, or stored, the V-shaped member E may be pivoted to the position shown in the last mentioned figure, for the invention A to occupy a minimum of space. i
When it is desired to use the invention it is placed in the configuration shown in FIG. 1, with .the hook C then being caused to engage an elevated support 22 I such as a pipe that supports the shower head D, and the assembly depending downwardly from the pipe 22 as shown. The engageable means 20 are then engaged by a number of hooks 24, each of which is formed as an integral part of a second clothes hanger F. The second I clothes hangers F are of conventional configuration and as shown in FIG. 5 are supported in parallel laterally spaced relationship, to permit a number of garments to be supported parallel to one another and in a minimum of space. Each of the second clothes hangers F includes two oppositely extending downwardly directed arms 26 that are connected on their lower ends by a cross piece 28 as is Conventional with such hangers. From the above description it will be apparent that both the engageable means 20 and the eye 18 may be used to removably support a number of the second clothes hangers F.
The construction of the invention and the use thereof has been previously described in detail, and need not again be repeated.
I claim:
I. In combination with a firstwire clothes hanger of the type that includes a cross bar engaging wire hook that has two oppositely disposed wire arms depending downwardly at an angle from the lower ends thereof and the arms on their lower ends connected by a wire cross piece, a device for supporting a plurality of clothes hangers parallel to'one another and substantially normal to said cross piece, said device including: a V-shaped wire member that has two spaced ends on which eyes are formed that pivotally engage said cross piece, said V-shaped wire member when not in use capable of being pivoted to a first position to overlie said first coat hanger for said first coat hanger and device to occupy a minimum of space when not in use by said coat hanger lying substantially within the confines of said V-shaped member, but said \/-shaped wire mem' ber capable of occupying a second position where it depends from said cross piece, with said V-shaped wire member having a number of spaced engageable hooks defined thereon that may be removably engaged by the hooks on a plurality of second clothes hangers tore- 3,887,079 3 a p v 4 movably support said second clothes hangers parallel her is in said second position and not supporting said to one another in fixed spaced relationship when said 5 econd clothes han er ca able of su ortm a arment V-shaped wire member 18 in said second position and g p pp g g said hook of said first clothes hanger engage said cross bar. and said cross bar when said V-shaped wire mem- 5 in a folded position thereon.

Claims (1)

1. In combination with a first wire clothes hanger of the type that includes a cross bar engaging wire hook that has two oppositely disposed wire arms depending downwardly at an angle from the lower ends thereof and the arms on their lower ends connected by a wire cross piece, a device for supporting a plurality of clothes hangers parallel to one another and substantially normal to said cross piece, said device including: a V-shaped wire member that has two spaced ends on which eyes are formed that pivotally engage said cross piece, said V-shaped wire member when not in use capable of being pivoted to a first position to overlie said first coat hanger for said first coat hanger and device to occupy a minimum of space when not in use by said coat hanger lying substantially within the confines of said V-shaped member, but said V-shaped wire member capable of occupying a second position where it depends from said cross piece, with said V-shaped wire member having a number of spaced engageable hooks defined thereon that may be removably engaged by the hooks on a plurality of second clothes hangers to removably support said second clothes hangers parallel to one another in fixed spaced relationship when said V-shaped wire member is in said second position and said hook of said first clothes hanger engage said cross bar, and said cross bar when said V-shaped wire member is in said second position and not supporting said second clothes hanger capable of supporting a garment in a folded position thereon.
