Description

'March 16, 1948. M. M. HoLLlDAY .2,438,054
SADIRON HOLDER Filed Sept. 29, 1945 y By @Mao/2a.
aaa/Wawy 5%@ Patented Mar. 16, 1948 2 claims. l
My invention relates to laundering and has for its object to provide means for suspending a sadiron from an ironing board.
Another object of this invention is to provide an adjustable holder for a sadiron.
A further object of my invention is to provide means supported by Ian ironing board for holding a hot iron.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention,
Figure 2 is a broken away end of an ironing board embracing my iron holder,
Figure 3 is a similar view showing the holder in adjusted position, and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of an ironing board embracing my invention and illustrating its application.
In the above drawings as well as in the speciflcation to follow, the same -characters of reference indicate the same parts throughout.
in the accompanying drawings, i3 indicates my invention which consists of a short iron bracket Il of U-shape and provided with horizontally disposed flanges l2 and I3 turned out from the upper ends IQ and I5 of its arms i3 and I?. The flanges are provided with bores i3 and I9 to receive the screw ends of bolts 23 and 2i (shown dotted) which project through the butt end 22 of an ironing board 23, the heads 2t of the bolts being countersunk in the upper face 25 of the board.
The said arms I6 and I1 are provided with oppcsitely disposed square openings 26 and 2l, the lower ends of which are on a common plane with the inner surface 28 of the plate 29 of the member Il. Slidably mounted upon said plate and through said openings is a square rod 33 having a, stop pin 3l on its inner end 32. The outer end 33 of member 30 has an upwardly inclined end 34 at an angle of about 90 and which is adapted to form a hook to receive the handle of a sadiron adapted to be hung there. A spring 35 has one end 36 i'lxed to the arm It and is provided with a curved lower end 3l bearing upon the upper face 38 of the bar 3B. The said spring end 31 is adapted to drop into the groove 39 in said face 38 when the bar 30 is drawn outward its full extensible length to hold the bar 20 advanced until again pushed in against the tension of the spring. When the said bar is drawn out its terminal 34 is far enough beyond said end 22 to permit of hanging Ian iron 40 thereon,
- but when not in use, it is pushed in so that said terminal will be under the end 22 and thus out of the way. This provision of this gadget will prevent the burning of ironing pads, clothes, etc., and also prevent the possibility of the iron sliding from the board and onto the foot of the user.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention, that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. A ilatiron holder comprising a U-shaped body member formed with oppositely disposed parallel ends terminating in outwardly directed apertured attaching ilanges, said ends having aligned rectangular bearing apertures formed therethrough, a flatiron supporting bar slidably disposed through said bearing apertures with one surface thereof contacting the connecting portion of said body member, a hook on the outer end of said bar, means on the inner end of said i bar for limiting the outward adjustment thereof, and means for automatically locking said bar in extended position.
2. A flatiron holder comprising a U-shaped body member formed with oppositely disposed parallel ends terminating in outwardly directed apertured attaching flanges, said ends having aligned rectangular bearing apertures formed therethrough, a atiron supporting bar slidably disposed through said bearing apertures with one surface thereof contacting the connecting portion of said body member, a hook on the outer end of said bar, means on the inner end of said bar for limiting the outward adjustment thereof, means for automatically locking said bar in extended position including a transverse locking groove formed in said bar, and a resilient arcuate locking nger on said body member automatically engageable in said groove when said rod is in extended position.
