Description

J. J. BROWN WASHBENCH March 9 1926., 1,576,303
Filed June 2 1925 INVENTOR Patented Mar. 9, 1926.
UNITED STATES JOHN J. BROWN, OF HOLLAND, MICHIGAN. I
WASHBENGI-I.
Application filed June 29, 1925. Serial No. 10,280.-
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, JOHN J. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holland, county of Ottawa, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVashbenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements 1n wash benches.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved wash bench which is well adapted for use in connection with washing machines, the bench being capable of modification in its arrangement of parts so that it is adapted for supporting tubs in proper relations to the machine and wringer.
A further object is to provide a wash bench having these advantages which may be compactly collapsed for storage or transportation.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitel appear from the detailed description to fol ow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated inthe accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a perspective view of a wash bench embodying the features of my invention with the main and auxiliary benches ad justed to one of its positions.
Fig. II is a side view of the bench collapsed.
Fig. III is a fragmentary section on a line corresponding to line 33 of Fig. I.
Fig. IV is a fragmentary view partially in section on a line corresponding to line 4-4 of Fig. I.
In the drawing the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines and similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts in all of the Views.
Referring to the drawing, my improved bench comprises a main bench member designated generally by the numeral 1 and an auxiliary bench member designated generally by the numeral 2. The main bench member comprises a pair of side rails 3 connected by the cross rods 4. The auxiliary bench member comprises a pair of side rails 5 connected by the cross rods 6.
The main bench member is provided with pairs oflegs7 connected by the cross rods 8 and pivotally mounted on the side rails by means of the pivot arms 9 which are rigidly which is pivoted at 18 to a plate on the upper side of one of the side rails of the auxiliary bench member and is adapted to be selectively engaged in the holes 11. A plate terminating in the downwardly engaging projecting hook 14 is mounted on the other auxiliary member side rail by suitable rivets. The hook is adapted to be engaged over the side rail of the main bench member against which the ends of the auxiliarymember abut, thereby supporting the auxiliary bench member at right angles to the main bench member.
The position of the auxiliary bench member may be varied to support the tubs in proper relation to the washing machine and wringer, or otherwise, as may be desired. When desired the bench may be collapsed as shown in Fig. II, the auxiliary bench member being swung over and into parallel relation to the main bench member and in verted thereon with the legs in collapsed position, the legs of the main bench member being collapsed against the under side there- .of, see Fig. II. The auxiliary bench member when swung to erected position is securely supported and at the same time may be readily adjusted as desired, or collapsed for storage or handling.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a wash bench, the combinationot a main bench member comprising connected side rails, one of said side rails having a vertical bore therein, an auxiliary bench member comprising connected side rails, a plate with a projecting downwardly engaging hook support mounted on the end of one of the auxiliary member side rails to engage over a side rail of the main member, and a projecting plate with a pin pivotally mounted on the other auxiliary member side rail to engage said bore in said main member side rail whereby said auxiliary member may be supported at the side of the main member or swung over and collapsed in inverted position upon said main member.
2. In a wash bench, the combination of a main bench member comprising connected side rails, one of said side rails having a vertical bore therein, an auxiliary bench member comprising connected side rails, a plate with a projecting downwardly engaging hook support mounted on the end of one of the auxiliary member side rails to engage over a side rail of the main member, and a projecting plate with a pin mounted on the other auxiliary member side rail to engage said bore in said main member side rail whereby said auxiliary member may be supported at the side of the main member.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set 20 my hand.
7 JOHN J. BROWN.-
