CVHNVELWNBU Re rra sTA'rEs PATENT OFFIC.
V CASABIANCA VAN VELKINIBUBG, or MORNING sun", IOWA. 1
ATTACHMENT FOR LAST-JAGKS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAsABIANoA VAN VEL- KINBURG, a citizen of the United'States, residing at Morning Sun, in the county of Louisa and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Last-Jacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings. I V
This invention relates to certain improvements in attachments for last-jacks; and it is an object of my invention to provide an attachment of this general character which may be readily and conven'iently applied to the standard or other part of a last-jack and serves as an effective 'medium whereby the accessories of the jack may be maintained in such a position as to be readily accessible to the operator.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved attachment for last-jacks whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler. less 'expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use. all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. 1
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that-my invention-may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of an attachment constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, the coacting last-jack being shown in fragment and partly in section: Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is, a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, A denotes the last standard of a conventional form of last-jack and to which. is clamped the arms 11 disposed ajacent opposite faces of the standard and herein set forth as maintained in operative position thereon through the medium of the bolt 2 disposed through said standard and the straps. The straps 11 have adjacent extremities projecting a predetermined distance to one side of the standard and pivotally secured therebetween through the me dium of the bolt 3 is the elongated arm 4, the lower extremity whereof terminating in Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented Mar. 7, 1916.
Application filed March 27, 1915. Serial No. 17,449.
an-inwardly disposed-extension 5 provided with a lip or projection 6 adapted to be accommodated within an aperture 7 produced in the standard. The upper extremity of the arm is provided with an outward extension 8 onwhich rests a shelf 9 of prede-- termined dimensions and to further maintain said shelf in applied position, I find it of advantage .to employ the straps 10 secured to said. shelf and having their inner extremities provided with the offset portions 11 secured to the extension 8, in a manner which is believed to be self-evident.
Secured to the arm 4. and in predetermined spaced relation longitudinally thereof are. the arms 12 arranged in substantial p'arallelisnr with the extension 8 and on which are disposed the additional shelves 1 1 and coacting-with said arms 12 and the intermediate shelves 14 are the straps 15 to assure an increased supporting surface for said shelves 14. The shelves 9 and 14 are of predetermined. dimensions and configuration but preferably of rectangular form in top plan and are engaged by the extension '8 and the arms 12 at substantially their longitudinal centers, said extension and arms being disposed transversely thereof. In order that the articles placed upon the shelves, such as lasts, blocks, and other accessories of a shoemaker, may be prevented from falling from the shelves, I provide each of said shelves along their outer longitudinal margin and end margins with the upstanding flanges 16. To further support the shelves, I also find it of advantage to connect the end portions thereof by the vertically disposed bracing rods 17.
' The bottom shelfl l is reinforced by the brace rods 18 secured to the under surface of said bottom shelf l ladjacent the ends thereof and to the lower extremity of the elongated member 4.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that an attachment for a last-jack constructed in accordance with my invention is, of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly -well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it maybe assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
In combination with a standard provided with a recess, an elongated member pivotally supported by the standard at a point intermediate its length and above the recess in the standard, the lower extremity of said elongated member being provided with an inwardly disposed extension, said eX- tension having a lip adapted to enter the recess of the standard, the opposite extremity of the elongated member being provided with an oppositely directed extension, arms projecting from the elongated member in predetermined spaced relation 7 lower shelf and the lower extremity of the elongated member. s In testimony whereof Ihereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
