BlLLlARD-TABLE LEVELING AND HOLDING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1906.
Application filed August 10,1905. Serial No. 273.569.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES CONWAY Do- ZIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baton Rouge, in the parish of East Baton Rouge and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Billiard-Table Leveling and Holding Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for holding and levelin billiard-tables and like structures, and has 'or its object to provide a simply-constructed and easily applied and operated device whereby the structure is held from lateral movement upon the floor and also adjusted vertically to maintain the same in the requisite level position.
With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical oporation.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion-the body po'rtion of a billiard-table and one of its legs with the improved holding and adjusting device applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the improved holding and adjusting device detached.
Like characters of reference designate cor-v ing a socket 17 in the upper side for receivingthe lower terminal of the leg 18 of a billiardtable and with a bearing 19, depending from the lower side for engagin the socket 13 of the base member. EXten ing from opposite ends of the member 16 are cars 20 21, through which set-screws 22 23 operate, the set-screws being rounded at the lower ends and bearing in the depressions 11 12 in the base member. The upper member 16 is rigidly connected to the leg 18, as by screws 24. It will be understood that one of the improved devices will be employed for each leg of the table. By this simple arrangement it will be obvious that a billiard-table or like structure may be firmly held from lateral movement upon the floor by the coaction of the sockets 17 and 13 and the bearin 19 and adjusted vertically by the coaction o the set-screws 22 23 to maintain the table in requisite level position.
The device is simple in construction and may be inexpensively manufactured and read ily applied to all the various forms of tablelegs manufactured.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A combined securing and adjusting device for billiard-table legs, consisting of a base member having depressions near the ends and with a socket between the depressions and provided with means for permanent attachment to a floor, an upper member having a socket in the upper face and with a bearing depending from the lower face for engagement with the socket in the base member and with ears extending from the ends, means for securing the leg of a billiard table in the socket of said upper member, and set-screws operating through said ears and bearing in the depressions in said base member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES C. DOZIER.
