EDWARD F. orro, or KENOSI-IA, WISCONSIN.
'ToY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. OTTO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenosha, in the county of Kenosha and 'State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 111 Toys, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and more particularly that class of toys known as seesaws which have figures mounted on the opposite ends of the teeter board.
The object of my invention is to produce a toy of the character named which can be easily set in motion and which when started will continue to move up and down automatically for a considerable length of time. 1 Other objects such as durability, simplicity, cheapness of manufacture, efiiciency and the general improvement of the art will be brought 'out in the following specification and claims; reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof: I Figure l is a perspective view of the whole device, Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side View partly in section, and Fig. 3 is a detail View of one of the ends of the teeter board showing a balancing weight in position.
The toy'comprises a base'l having standards 2. A crossbeam or brace 3 is secured intermediate of the ends of the standards 2.
A tongue 4 is spaced from the base 1 for detachably holding. the brace 5. I
The teeter board 7-has secured to its underside a bracket 8 which terminates in a knife edge 9 and a tongue 10 having a hole 11 formed therein. The knife edge rests in the slots 6 of the standards 2, and a spring 12 dctachably secured at one end, by means of the hook l t, in the hole 11 and at its other end to the cross bar 3 as at 13. Figures 15 are mounted on the opposite end of the teeter board, and weights l6are secured at its ends beneath said figures to establish an equi-poise or even balancing of the board.
It will be readily understood that while five cents each, by addressing the Washington, D. C.

the severalparts of the device as described I are detachable the brace 5 and spring 12 may be rigidlysecured to the other parts, thus making the several parts integral with- ,out departing from the spirit of my invention. It will also be understoodthat While Ihave shown the figures on the teeter board made from two pieces of metal and spread apart to straddle the teeter board, thatiI may use any other construction of figures such as lead, hollow cast-iron, or wood, and that the figures may be weighted to balance the teeter board and the weights 16 thereby dispensed with.
Having I claim is:
1. A seesaw comprising .a base, standards on said base, a teeterboard pivoted on said standards by-a knife edge, and a spring connected to said knife edge and said base to provide a tension to facilitate the movement of said board. V I
2. A toy comprising a base standards exthus described'my invention what i tending upwardly from said base, V-shaped slots in said standards, a teeter board, a knife edge secured to said teeter board, said knife edgebeing mountedinsaid V-shaped slots in said standards, a crossbar between said standards, and a spring secured to said knife edgeand said crossbar.
3. A toy seesaw comprising a base, standards' extending upwardly from said base, a-
