UNITED STATES JOHN E SEDLACEK, 0F SCHUYLER, NEBRASKA.
CHILDS TOY.
Application filed August 19, 1924:- Serial No. 732,935.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. Snnmonrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schuyler, in the county of Colfax and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Childs Toy, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in childrenstoys and is more particularly adapted to a device which will not only afford amusement for small children but will also act in the capacity of an exercising device.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a toy of the above mentioned character, which simulates a seesaw in its operation, the device being simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved invention, and
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred e1nbodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the supporting standard which is formed of'wood and the same is adapted to be secured to a wall or the like by any suitable fastening means such as illustrated at 2. The teeter board forming a part of the present invention is designated generally by the numeral 3 and secured to the side edges of the same are the strap irons 1 and 5 respectively. The fastening means therefor is illustrated at 6 in the drawing. The free ends of the strap irons extend beyond the inner end of the teeter board and are provided with registering openings for the purpose of receiving the bolt 7 which extends transversely through the side edges of the supporting standard 1 whereby the inner end of the teeter board is pivotally supported on the standard. The pivot bolt is illustrated at 7 and it is of course to be understood that the free ends of the strap irons will extend on opposite sides of the supporting standards.
The rear portion or outer end of the teeter board is cut in such a manner as to provide a seat portion 8. Extending upwardly from the lntermediate portion of the teeter board is the post 9, and the upper end thereof sup- 00 ports the handle bar 10, the outer ends of which are provided with the handles 11 which are grasped by the child when seated on the teeter board. A foot rest such as is illus trated generally at 12 extends transversely across the inner end of the teeter board and as the same may be of any conventional construction, a further detailed description thereof is not thought necessary.
For the purpose of holding the teeter board in a substantially horizontal position, a retractile coil spring 13 is provided, one end thereof being connected to a suitable hook 14 which is supported in the upper portion of the supporting standard 1, while the coil spring 13 will return the teeter 35 board to its upward position. After the teeter board has been operated by having the feet of the child seated thereon touching the floor for a suitable length of time the childs feet may engage the foot rest 12 and the device will operate for a suitable length of time.
A toy of the above mentioned character, will afford amusement to small children and further provides a means for exercising the limbs of a child. The manner in which the toy embodying the present invention is constructed enables the same to be readily and easily assembled and will furthermore be positive and efficient in its operation.
VVhile' I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A toy comprising a vertical supporting standard adapted to be secured to a wall, a teeter board, strap irons secured to the opposite, sides of the board, the free ends of handle member on the upper member of said the strap irons extending beyond the inner post; and a-retractilespringeconnected at its ends of the board, a pivot bolt extending upper end to the upper portion of said transversely through the standards and standard and at its opposite end to the teeter through the free end-softhe strap irons, a -board-aidjacent the -inner end thereof.
seat portion on the outer end of the board, In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
at post extending upwardly from the 'intermediate portion ofthe teeter board, a JOHN E. SEDLAGEK.
