Application February 19, 1945, Serial No. 578,619
Claims. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys adapted for use by small children and relates more particularly to a rocking toy equipped with a central seat as well as with end seats supported on a rocker whereby the toy may be used by one or two or more children.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a unitary structure of this character adapted for manufacture from molded material, such as plastic or the like and in which a relatively wide rocker is provided having a central upstanding web or flange with its ends projecting upwardly and outwardly from the rocker and formed with seats at the outer ends thereof as Well as with a seat at the central portion of the web.
A further object is to provide a toy of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, strong and durable, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational View.
Figure 2 is a top plan View.
Figure 3 is an end elevational view.
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional View taken substantially on a line l-d of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary bottom plan View.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disciosed a preferred embodiment of invention, the numeral 5 designates a relatively wide rocker having a centrally disposed web or flange ii rising from the inner surface of the rocker, the ends of the flange projecting upwardly and outwardly from the upper edges of the rocker.
ihe rocker 5 and flange 6 may be molded or cast from plastic material or the like and to the lower portion at each end of the flange is formed a transversely extending seat 1. Immediately adjacent the seat 1 the flange is formed with an upward extending projection 8 having a handle 9 formed with the upper portion thereof and projecting outwardly from opposite sides of the extension.
The handle 9 is positioned for gripping by the hands of a child seated on the seat 7 and straddling the flange 6 and with the feet of the child resting on the upper edges rocker '5.
. The central portion of the flange 6 is also formed at its upper edge with a seat II and the upper edge of the flange at opposite sides of the seat II is also formed with handles l2 and I3 projecting laterally outwardly from opposite sides of the flange so that a child may occupy the seat I I and faced in either direction and grip either of the handles [2 or [3 and with the feet of the child resting on the upper surface of the rocker.
If desired two children may occupy the seat I l and face in opposite directions from each other.
It will also be apparent that a child may occupy each of the seats I at the opposite ends of the flange 6 and one or more children may occupy the seat II and a rocking motion produced by the children in the usual manner.
It is believed that the details of construction, manner of use and advantages of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention what I claim is:
1. A rocking toy of the class described comprising a, relatively wide rocker, an upstanding flange at the central portion of the rocker extending longitudinally thereof and projecting outwardly from opposite ends of the rocker, seats carried at the outer ends of the flange, and a seat supported on the upper edge of the flange at the central portion thereof and disposed below the level of the first mentioned seats.
2. A rocking toy of the class described comprising a relatively wide rocker, an upstanding flange at the central portion of the rocker extending longitudinally thereof and projecting outwardly from opposite ends of the rocker, seats carried at the outer ends of the flange, and a seat supported on the upper edge of the flange at the central portion thereof and disposed below the level of the first mentioned seats, and hand grips projecting horizontally outwardly from the flange adjacent each of said seats.
3. A rocking toy comprising a relatively wide rocker, a longitudinal flange rising from longitudinal central portion of the rocker and projecting outwardly beyond each end of the H] of the rocker, and a seat at each end of the flange, the bottom edge of the flange forming a continuation of the outer surface of the rocker and being curved in the opposite direction thereto for positioning the seats substantially beyond and only slightly above the level of the rocker ends.
4. A rocking toy of the class described comprising a relatively widerocker, an upstanding flange at the central .portionbf the rocker extending longitudinally thereof and projecting outwardly from opposite ends of the rocker, seats carried at the outer ends of the flange, and a seat supported on the upper edge of the flange at the central portion thereof and disposedbelowthe level of the first mentioned-seats, the' bottom edge of the flange forming a continuation of the outer surface of the rockerand being .curved in the opposte direction thereto for positioning the seats substantially beyond and only slightly above the level of the rocker ends.
5. Arocking toy of the class described comprising a relatively wide rocker, an upstanding flange at'the central portion of the rocker extending longitudinally thereof and projecting out- REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the flies .01 i-hisepatent't 'UNITEDiS'I'ATES PATENTS vNumber Name Date 1,270,219 Sc'hwarz June 18, 1918 1,401;906 Haugh Dec. 2'7, 1921 1,512,972 Zsarnay Oct. 28, 1924 1,535,828 Guischard Apr. 28, 1925 1,572,194 Erickson Feb. 9,, 1926 1,754,109: Kitze-- Apr. .8, .1930
