CUFF.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 8, 1915. Serial No. 65,821.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHEssLY DEMrsnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ada, in the county of Pontotoc and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cuffs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates the provision of a cuff or cuff band of novel construction, whereby provision is made for securing together the opposite ends of the cud without necessitating the'use of cuff links or analogous fastening elements.
More specifically stated, the invention aims to provide a cuff having a tab carried by one end thereof for engagement with the opposite end of the cuE in a manner to hold said ends together, the tab being associated with the cuit in a manner whereby the same can be arranged so as not to interfere with the use of cuff links or the like should their use be desired.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the specific construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the ldrawing forming part of` this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure l is a plan view of the cuE opened.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the cuff closed showing the operative arrangement of the securing tab. y
Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken on line 8 3 of Fig. 2.
F ig. 4 is a sectional view through the cuif, showing 4the inoperative position of the securing tabs.
In carrying out my invention I provide a cuff 5, with a tab 6 projecting centrally from the outer end of the cuff. The tab is adapted to be extended between the side portions of the cuff and passed through atrans- 'acent the opposite end of verse opening 7 ad] the cuff. The tab is cut away to provlde a tongue 8 extending in an opposite direction with respect to the tab, and adapted when the tab is passed through the slot 7 to engage one edge of said slot thereby effectively holding the cufl' in position about the wrist. It is to be understood that the tab as shown in this embodiment of the invention is constructed from the same material from which the cuff is made, and thereby forms an integral part, so that when the cuff is laundried and starched, the tab 6 will be rendered sufliciently stiff orrigid to facilitate its association with the free end of the cuff, and furthermore edectively holds the opposite ends of the culf securely fastened. With a cuff of this character it will bev manifest that use of cuff links or the like is not necessary, thereby eliminating considerable inconvenience and expense as the result of the loss of such fastening elements. However to provide for the useof such fastening elements, should their use be desired, I provide the tab 6 with a button hole 9 which registerswith the usual button holes 10 in the opposite ends of the culi". It is of course to be understood .that when cuff links are used, the tab is positioned between the side portions of thc cuff, but not inserted through the slot 7.
IVhilc it is believed that the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily `apparent from the foregoing description, I
desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction and arrangement herein shown, as the same is merely illustrative of one embodiment of the invention and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is l. A cuff having button holes in both ends thereof, one end of the cuff being also provided with a transverse slot, a flexible tab projecting centrally from the opposite end of the cuff adapted to be foldedvbetween said ends, and provided with a button hole adapted to aline with the button holes of said cuff.y
2. A cuff having button holes adjacent to be received by said slot, orv

both ends, and a transverse slot adjacent one said button holes of the cuff for the purpose end, a iiexible tab projecting from the opposet forth. l@ site end of the cuff and adapted to be passed In testimony whereof I aliX my signature through said slot When used, a tongue out in presence of tWo Witnesses.
5 from said tab to engage the Wall of said slot CHESSLY DEMPSEY.
to hold the article in cu form, and said ltnessesz tab being also foldable between the ends of A. H. CONSTANT, the cuff and having a slot registering With h/Irs. C. DEMPSEY.
Copies of this patent may he obtained for iive cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
