JOHN B. BArtLow, or WALKER TOWNSHIP, KENT COUNTY, MICHIGAN.
HOLDER FOR PHON()GBMQLPH-REGORDS.`
weaves. i
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN B. BARLow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Valker township, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders for Phonograph-Records, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to holders for phonograph records; and its object is to provide a simple device of that character wherein such records may be securely held by their edges. u
This obj ect is attained by, and the invention finds preferable embodiment in, the structure hereinafterdescribed and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 isa view in perspective of a phonograph record holder opened;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view showing in plan one of the holding members;
Fig. 3 is an edge view of the same;
Figft is a plan view of a movable holding member; i
Fig. 5 is an edge View of the same;
Fig. 6 is a plan view of a modified construction of the movable member; and
Fig. 7 is an edge view of the base with the holding members and phonograph record held thereby. r
The phonograph recordl is removably held on the base 2 of the holder by oppositely disposed holding members, which are carried by, and extend outwardly from the face of, the base and hold such record on its opposite sides or edges. The first holding member 3, has a concave edge 1 adapted to receive a segmental part ofthe record, and engage its edge or side at points on the records periphery at an angular distance apart.. The second holding member 5 is movable parallel to the `face of the base toward and away from the first member and is adapted to hold such record, at a point on its opposite edge or side, from which point 6 a straight line as the line A-B of Fig. 1) projected through the recordscen-- ter 7 passes between the points of the iirst members engagement, such points being indicated at 8, 9. Preferably the second member is spring-pressed toward the first member and may consist of the leaf spring as shown at 10 in Figs. 1, 4 and 5; or this second member may be a bar 2O pivotally mounted on the base at 11 as indicated in Specification of Letters Patent.
shown in` Fig. 1.

Application filed March 28, 1917. Serial No. 157,867.
Figli. The holding members are shown provided with overhanging portions 12 and 13 respectively, adapted to extend over the outer flat surface of the record to securely hold the same. Y i
Records of different diameters may be held on the base, a larger record being shown in solid lines and a smaller record in dotted lines in Fig. l, the second member 5 being movable a sufiicient distance to hold either. Both sides of the base may be furnished with holding members as shown in Fig. 1.
Filler members 14, 15, extend upwardly from the face of the base a greater distance than the holding members extend upwardly therefrom as particularly shown in Fig.` 7, in order to protect the `faces of the records from injury by contacting with the record on the adjacent base or with any parts carried by such adjacent base. The basesmay be bound together as leaves ina book as I claim:
1. In a device of the character described; a base; means for holding a phonograph record on the base comprising, a first member extending outwardly from the face of the base and adapted to hold such record at one side, and a second member movable parallel to the face of the base toward and away from the first member and adapted to hold such record at its opposite side.
2. In a device of the character described; a base; mea-ns for holding a phonograph record on the base comprising, a first member extending outwardly from the face of the base and adapted to engage such record at one side, and a second member movable parallel to the face of the base toward and away from the first member and adapted to engage such record at its opposite side; said members having overhanging portions adapted to extend over the outer flat surface of such record.
3. ln a device of the character described; a base; means for holding a phonograph record on the base comprising, a first member extending outwardly from the face of the base and adapted to hold such record at one side, and a second member springpressed toward the first member parallel to extending outwardly from the face of the base and adapted to engage such record at one side, 'and' a second member spring# pressed toward the iirst member parallel to the face of the base and adapted to yieldingly hold such record at its opposite side; said" members having overhanging portions adapted to extend overrthe outer flat sur` face of the base. 4
5. In a device of the character described; a base; means orvholding a phonograph record on the base comprising, a first member extending outwardlyrfrom the face of the base and adapted to engage such record at .points an angular distance apart on one side thereof, and a second member movable parallel to the face of the base toward and away 'from the irst member and adapted to hold such record at a point onits opposite side from which point a straight line probase and adapted to engage such record at points an angular distance `apart on one side thereof,v and a second member springpressed toward the first member parallel to the face of the base and to yieldingly hold such record ata pointon its opposite side'from whichpoint a'straight line projected through such recordscenter passes between the points of the first members engagement; said members having overhanging portions adapted to extend over'the outer flat surface of such record.
7. In adevice of the character described; a base; means for holding-a phonograph record on the base comprising, a irst member extending outwardly from the face of the base and adapted to engage such record at points an angular distance apart on one side thereof, and a secOlid member spring-pressed toward the irst member parallel to the face of the base and adapted toyieldingly hold such record at a point on its opposite side from which point a vstraight line projected through such records center 'passes between the points of the first members engagement; said members having overhanging portions adapted to extend over the outer flatv surface of such record; and iillermembers extending upwardly from the face'lo the base to a greater distance thansaid holding members extend upwardly therefrom.
In testimony whereofl have hereunto set my hand.
JOHN B. Bannovv..
