' E; MAKER. SAFETY CARRYING BAND. APPLICATION FILED D EC. l5, I916.-
Patente d Augi' 7, 1917.
- s'rarns N'rf Enron.
ERNEST MAKER, or sums; Rosa, CALIFORNIA.
SAFETY CARRYiNG-BAND.
Specification of Letters Patent;
Application filed December 15, 1916.. Serial No. 137,224.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, ERNEsrMAKER, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Santa Rosa, in the county of Sonoma and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Carrying- Bands, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to an improved safety carrying band and has as its primary object to provide a device of this character, particularly adapted foradjustable connection about the arm or other part of the person and provided at its free end with a snap for receiving a pocketbook, card case, or
other similar article to be safely and easily- 'end of the band may be engaged with said buckle to form a loop for receiving the article to be carried by the band. And the invention has as a still further object to provide an improved mounting for the snap of such nature that the said snap will not be likely to' be pulled loose from the band.
Other and incidental objects will appear as the description proceeds and in the drawings wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a perspective view bf my improved band, illustrating the manner in which a conventional type of card case may 'be connected to the snap of the band-t0 be carried by th esaid band,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the snap of the band engaged with the'buckle thereof to form a loop and illus-. trating a conventionaltype of powder box engaged with the said loop to be carried by the band,
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the band with the snap end thereof shown in section and illustrating the manner in which the snap is connected with the band, and
Fig. 1 is a transverse sectionalview particularlyshowing the eyelet in the snap end of the band. for receiving the link connecting the snap with the band.
, In carrying out the invention a strap or suspension element 10 of approved length is employed. This'stra p is formed of fabric or other suitable material and at one end thereof is equipped with a buckle 11 suitably secured to the adjacent end of the strap.
The buckle 11 includes a slidable'catch 12 provided with a plurality .of teeth 13 to cooperate with the free end of the strap.
At its extremity opposite the buckle 11, the strap is equipped with a substantially U- shapedbinding clip 14 preferably of metal bent around adjacent margins ofthe strap to overlie the contiguous end thereof with the legs of the clip extending longitudinally Patented Aug.'*7,'1917.
of the strap. Fitted through the strap between the said legs, is a metal eyelet 15 having its ends overturned for connecting the eyelet with the strap. Swiveled in the said eyelet and extending loosely through the b-ight of the clip 14, is a link 16 and connected to the outer end of'the said link is a suitable snap or attaching device 17 It will be observed that by this arrangement the snap 17 with the link 16 may be turned upon the strap and by connecting the said link with the eyelet 15, the link cannot easily pull out. Furthermore, it will be observed that the bight of the clip 14 will coeperate with the said eyelet to support the link upon the strap with the legs of the clip holding the material of the strap from spreading at the eyelet to release the eyelet.
In use, the snap end of the strap is threaded I through'the buckle 11 in the manner shown in Fig. 1 with the teeth 13 of the catch 12 engaging with the strap for holding the buckle at adjustment. By sliding the buckle longitudinallyupon the strap, the band may be adjustably fitted about the arm or other part of the person with the free end of the strap depending to receive a card case asconv'entionally illustrated at 18, a pocket-book or other similar article. For connecting the card case with the band, the snap 17 may be hooked in the ring of the said case with the case thus securely attached to the band to. be safely carried thereby.
In some instances, it may be desired to form a loop of the free end of the strap and to accomplish this result, the snap 17 is hooked upon one end of the buckle 11, as illustrated in Fig. 2 to form a loop 19. The ring of a powder box as conventionally illustrated at 20 in the drawings may be connected with this loop when the box may be safely carried by theband. It will, of
course, be understood that any other appropriate article may be connected with the loop 19 in a similar manner. The band, when not being used for carrying articles, may be employed as an ordinary strap, the type of buckle employed making it possible to adjustably fit the strap tightly about different objects without reference to any variation in the size of the said objects. Furthermore, owing to the nature of the buckle, the band may be easily adjusted about the arm or other part of the person to fit comfortable thereon. In some instances, it might be found desirable to thread the band through a button hole in the clothing for connecting the band with the person. The band is of such nature that it may be easily so arranged with the free end of the band depending for receiving the article to be carried thereby. In other instances, it might be desired to connect the snap 17 directly with the buckle without passing the intermediate por tion of the band through the buckle In this way, the length of the band would be formed into a continuous loop to be suitably engaged with an article or object with the said loop forming an easy means for carrying the said article or object.
It will, therefore be seen that I provide a 'particularlyeflicient construction for the purpose set forth and While I have indicated various different ways in which the band may be 'employed in use, still it will be understood that the said band may be employed in various difierent other ways not necessary to be herein mentioned.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
1. A device of the character described ineluding a suspension element, an eyelet extending through and connected thereto, an attaching device, and means connecting the said attaching device with the said element and engaged .with said eyelet with the said means disposed in a plane with the said element. I
2. A device of the character described including a suspension element, a marginal binding clip carried thereby, an eyelet fitted through the said. element, an attaching device, and a link connected to the said attaching device and swiveled in the said eyelet with the said link fitted freely through the said clip. 4
3. A device of the characterdescribed including a suspension element, an attaching device, means embedded in the suspension element, means connecting the attaching device with the said element and swiveled upon the said first mentioned means, and means carried by the said element and rotatably receiving the said second mentioned means intermedia-te its ends to provide a guide and support therefor. I In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
