Description

June,10 1924. 1,497,236 w. c. HAPPE MOTION PICTUE IE REEL BAND filed Kay 14, 1923 Patented June 10, 1924.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM C. HAPPE, OF WEBSTER, SOUTH DAKOTA.
MOTION-PICTURE-REEL BAND.
Application filed May 14, 1923. Serial No. 638,937.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. HAPP a citizen of the United States, residing at Webster, in the county of Day and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Motion-Picture-Reel Band, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a motion picture reel band and has for its principal object to provide means for preventing a film from unraveling from its reel.
Heretofore it has been the custom to hold the film upon the reel by means of a cord or metallic coil spring. The string has a tendency to become untied while the steel s ring has a tendency to injure the film.
e present invention overcomes these difliculties by providing a device which will not become accidentally disengaged and which can in no way injure the film.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a band of this nature which is' V rovided with a simple structure that may 95 be manufactured at a low cost and which will be reliable and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. In the drawing Figure 1 is an edge elevation of the device, a portion thereof being shown in section and the reel being shown diagrammatically,
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device showing the same in the form of a loop, and Figure 3 is a plan view of the device showing the same flattened out.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 1 designates a flexible band of any suitable material. A series of apertures 2 are provided in this band at one end thereof. The other end of the band is slotted as at 3 and bent over upon itself no that an elas ic band i may be in erted through the slot and riveted between portions of the band 1. A tab of flexible material is attached to the end of the elastic band 4:. The tab is indicated at 5 and is preferably attached to the end of the elastic band by means of a hook 6 the shank of which passes through the elastic band and the tab and is then flattened out.
This hook 6 is adapted to be engaged with the apertures 2 as is indicated in Figure 1. The band 1 is disposed about the film so that the elastic band 4 is under tension and thus when the hook 6 is engaged with an aperture 2 it will be prevented from accidental displacement. It will also be noted that the device may be utilized upon various sized films because of the elastic band 4 and the plurality of apertures 2.
The structure of the device which I have described relates to the preferred embodiment thereof and it is to be understood that numerous changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described including a flexible band provided with a series of apertures adjacent one end, an elastic so member connected to the other end of the band and a hook on the end of the elastic member for engagement with the apertures.
2. A device of the class described including a flexible band having an aperture at one end, an elastic member attached to the band at its other end and means on the elastic band for engaging said aperture.
3. A device of the class described including a flexible band having an aperture at 9 one end, an elastic member attached to the other end of the band, a tab, a hook for engagement with said aperture, said hook including a shank passing through the elastic member of the tab and having its end flattened so as to hold the tab in engagement with the elastic member.
4. A device of the class described including an elongated non-elastic flexible band adapted to be placed about a motion picture reel or the like for'holding the same tightly In testimony whereof I aflix my signa- Wound, an elastic member attached to one ture in presence of two Witnesses. end of the band, and means on the end of the device for attaching the free end of the WILLIAM C.
