HOLDING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 10, 1908.
Application filed November 30, 1907. Serial No. 404,506.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EPI-IRAIM S. SMITH, Jr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orange, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holding Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in holding devices and more particularly to that class adapted to be employed for holding the switch of a cow when the cow is being milked and my object is to provide a device of this class which will securely hold the switch.
A further object is to provide means for holding the device against rotation while in parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the body of the holder, which is preferably constructed from a flat strip of metal and preferably of spring metal.
The body 1 is preferably formed substantially circular, the free ends of the body be ing bent to form terminals 2, and in order to anchor the body, the terminals are separated and the body clamped around the leg of the attendant, the body being prevented from rotating by placing a plurality of projections 3 on the inner face of the body 1, which engage the trousers of the attendant and prevent the body from rotating, the tension of the body securely holding the same in its anchored position.
Securedto the outer face of the body 1, 1s a spring clamp 4, one end of which is secured to the body by means of rivets or the like 5, while the opposite end thereof is free and slightly curved outwardly, so that the switch of the animal may be readily entered between the clamp and the body, the clamp being sufficiently near the face of the body to securely hold the switch.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a very cheap and economical form of switchholding device and one that can be quickly applied to use and it will further be seen that the switch of the animal will be held securely when placed between the clamp and the body.
What I claim is:
1. A switch-holding device of the class described, comprising a metallic s ring-actuated body, means on the inner face of the body td-anchor said body against rotation and a spring-actuated clamp secured to one face of said body adapted to receive and hold the switch of the animal.
2. A switch-holding device of the class described, comprising a spring-actuated body, projections on the inner face of said body, adapted to hold said body against rotation, a spring-actuated clamp on one face of said body, adapted to receive and hold the switch of an animal and means to secure one end of the clamp to the body.
3. A securing device of the class described, comprising a substantially circular spring-actuated body having terminals, projections on the inner face of said body, adapted to hold the body against rotation, a spring-actuated clamp on the outer face of the body and means to secure one end of the clamp to the body.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EPIIRAIM S. SMITH, JR.
