- FASTENER FOR GLOVE .PAOKAGES. No. 405,076. Patented June 11, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
CHARLES T. BULL, OF BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY.
FASTEN ER FOR G LOVE-PACKAG ES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 405,076, dated June 11, 1889.
Application filed April 22, 1889. Serial No. 308,201. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES T. BULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners or Inclosing- Bands for Glove-Packages, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to produce a fastener or inclosing-band for glove-packages which can be readily adjusted to packages of different size without destroying the inclosing-band or injuring the gloves. Heretofore it has been the common practice to use an ordinary paper band as a fastener for a package of gloves, (for instance, one dozen pairs) and this band was secured around the package by means of a pin and contained the usual advertising-mattersuch as the manufacturers name, trade-mark, &c.and when the size of the package was decreased by sales of gloves the band was drawn tight and repinned. As a result, the band would wear out very quickly and frequently before the gloves in the original package were all sold,
and hence the dealer in making subsequent sales would lose the advantage of the advertising-matter on the band-an item of considerable importance in the trade. Another objection was that in securing the band around the package from time to time as sales were made, the gloves would frequently be punctured or torn by the pin .and lose in value. By my invention I seek to obviate these objections and to produce a durable band of simple and economical construction, and at the same time having all theadvantages of the bands heretofore in use; and to this end my invention consists in an adj ustable fastener or inclosing-band for packages of gloves comprising a strip of paper, linen cloth, or analogous material adapted to receive the manufacturers name, trade-mark, or other matter, a flap secured to said band and provided with a series of devices adapted to engage with and be secured to a device on the other end of said band, whereby the band can be secured around the glove-package and adjusted from time to time, as desired, substantially as described.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the band, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the same applied to a package of gloves.
a designates the band, and b a flap stitched or otherwise secured to the band. As shown, this flap is provided with a series of eyelets c, and a hook (I is attached to the other end of the band. This hook can be engaged with one of the eyelets c, and as the package increases or decreases in size the hook can be engaged with the proper eyelet to make the band fit snugly around the package. Obviously, instead of the eyelets,a series of hooks can be employed, and instead of the hook d a loop may be used to engage said hooks without departing from the principle of my in vention.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An adjustable fastener or inclosing-band for packages of gloves, comprising a strip of paper, linen cloth, or analogous material adapted to receive the man ufacturefis name, trademark, or other matter, and a flap secured to said band and provided with a series of devices adapted to engage with and be secured to a device on the other end of said band, whereby the band can be secured around the glove-package and adjusted from time to time, as desired, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 1st day of April, A. D. 1889.
