Description

LEO J. MATTY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINATION-GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 31, 191 7.
Application filed December 19, 1916. Serial N 0. 137,761.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEO J. MA'r'rY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Garments, of which-the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination garments or union suits, more particularly to dress or neglige shirts with drawers attached, and combination undergarments,-
and the objects of the invention are to improve upon the construction of said garments.
I will now proceed to describe my invention with reference to the accompanying drawings and will then features in claim:
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of a garment made in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a view of the garment shown in Fig. 1, showing the drawers unbuttoned down one leg and folded back. i
Fig. 3 is a front'view of an undergarment also made in accordance with the present invention.
Referring to the drawings, .1 designates in the present instance, a soft-shirt having a soft collar and short sleeves, to which is secured the short drawers 2.
In accordance with this invention, the draw fron \ line from the point 3 to the point 4, which are preferably'situated at equal distances on opposite sides of the front opening 5 of the shirt, the drawers being secured to the shirt outside of the points 3 and 4: in front and across the back of the garment.
In the present instance, the present invention, the front of the drawers is also open from the point 4, on one side of the center of the garment, downwardly on a diagonal line 6 to a point 7, situated above the crotch Sand then downwardly from the point 7, on the inner side of the adjacent drawer leg above the inner seam 9, to the bottom of said leg".
The opening along the diagonal line 6 is closed by means of suitable buttons 10, the material of the drawers being suitably cut tooverlap and close the opening when buttoned as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
point out the novel ficient length to effectively rs are open transversely across the portions 13' and according to By unbuttoning the buttons 10 the front of the drawers can be opened by turning back the front fiap 11 as clearly shown in Fig. 2, in which position the bottom of the open leg can be folded backward to provide a back opening, without unbuttoning the buttons 12 which close the front of the shirt. I
In the present instance, the lower front portions 13 of the shirt extend from either side of the points 3 and 4 downward to the crotch of the drawers, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, the front portions 13 being. covered when the flap 11 is buttoned as shown in Fig. 1. It is not necessary to extend, the front portions 13, down as far as the crotch and if so desired the same can be made shorter, provided the sameare made of sufclose the opening between the points 3 and 4. When, however, an outer shirt similar to that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is provided with attached drawers it is not necessaryto wear an undergarment and for that reason the garment is made more comfortablewhen the shirt is provided with front portions that extend downward to the crotch.
In Fig. 3 is shown an undergarment made in accordance with the invention in which 1 designates the body portion to which is secured the drawers 2 made in all respects like the drawers 2 before described. In this garment the lower front portions 13' of the body portion preferably extend downward about half-way between the top of the drawers and the crotch as clearly shown in the figure, this form being desirable as the outer shirt worn over this garment will extend downward to at least the crotch makingit unnecessary to extend the front downwardly more than just sufliciently to close the opening between the points 3 and l.
Fromthe above description it will be seen that a garment made as above described when in use is effectively closed in front, affording a maximum amount of comfort to the wearer, the same is easily opened and closed for toilet purposes, and easily taken oil or put on as the same opens up all the way from the top to the bottom. The garment when worn also presents aneat dressy appearance and will not sag or unbutton when in use. r
While. the invention has been described with particular reference to the details of construction the same is not to be considered as limited thereto as many changes can be made and still fall within the scope of the invention set forth in the following claim.
What I claim is: A combination garment comprising a onepiece suit consisting of a shirt and drawers combined, the shirt having a central opening extending vertically from the front ofthe neck to the lower edge of the shirt, the drawers being connected to the shirt at the waist line, said drawers having an opening extending from one side of the center of the waist line downwardly and diagonally to the bottom; of. the opposite leg, the upper edge of the drawers. adjacent said diagonal opening being detachably secured to the waist line of the shirt, and means for closing the openings of the shirt and drawers.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. v r
