Description
JOHN A. E'., MORONEY.
Boots and Shoes.
N0. 122,632.. Patent'edJan.9,1872.
NITED STATES JOHN A. E. MORONEY, OF PONTIAC, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,632, dated January 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. E. MORONEY, of Pontiac, in the county of Oakland and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots and Shoes; and do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in cutting the side pieces of boots and shoes in such a manner thattheir rear edges will overlap each other far enough to bring the seams on the sides instead of directly in rear, as now generally done.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view, Fig. 2 a rear view, and Fig. 3 a horizontal section of so much of a boot or shoe as will illustrate my invention.
A A represent the two side pieces of a boot or shoe, which are cut so much larger than is usually done that their rear edges will over lap each other. there will be a seam, to, on each side instead of directly at the rear.
The usual seam in the rear is always objectionable and annoying; but by cutting the side pieces so as to form one seam on each side this is entirely obviated.
The space between the seams a a may be stitched with any kind of fancy sewing, if desired, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- v A boot or shoe having its side pieces out large enough to allow their rear edges. to overlap each other, so as to bring a seam on each side instead of directly at the rear, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of September, 1871.
JOHN A. E. MORONEY.
