Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 193W.
Application iiled October 31, 1916. Serial No. 128,795.
To all whom t may concern.' Be 1t known that we, WILLIAM H. rom), ROBERT M. MILLARD, and Josemi PAUL,
citizens of the United States, residing at Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire, State of TVisconsin, have invented a new and useful Employees Number, Name, and Rate Record, of which the following is a specification,
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a holder adapted to receive slips, and the invention aims to p'rovide novel means whereby the pockets which receive the ends of the slips may be formed, and whereb the structure will be reinforced and strengt iened.
1t is Within the province of the disciosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
N ith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without den parting from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings n Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a slip holder constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on 1; and
Fig. 3 Fig. 1.
The device forming the subject matter 'of this application includes a body comprising an intermediate plate 1 which may be made 0f cardboard or any other suitable material. Applied to opposed faces of the plate 1 and ordinarily coextensive in area therewith are facings 2. The facings 2 may be made of leather and if desired may be glued to the plate 1. Applied to the facings 2 on opposite sides of the body are end strips 3. Intermediate strips 4t are applied to the facings 2 on opposite sides of the body. There may be as many of these intermediate strips 4 as is considered expedient. The strips 3 and 4 are secured in place in any desired way. Preferably, but not of necessity, stitchings 5 unite the end .,trips the line 2-2 of Fig.
is a section on the line 3 3 of 9, the facings 2 and the plate 1., The stitch.- ings preferably are located about midway between the longitudinal edges of the strips The stitcliings 5 divide the strips 3 into wings 6 and 7. Stitchings 8 extend longitudinally of the intermediate strips et and pass through the facings 2 and the intermediate plate 1. The stitchings 8 divide the intermediate strips 4 into wings 9 and 10. Cross stitchings 11 extend from one edge of the body to the other at right angles to the stitchings 8 and 5. The stitchings 11 cooperate with the stitchings 8 vto divide the wings 9 and 10 of the intermediate strip 41 into pockets 12, and cooperate with the stltchings 5 to divide the wings 7 into pockets 14. The wing 9 and the wings 7 may be equipped with numerals 15 individual to the pockets.
The numeral 16 denotes flexible slips or cards, the ends of which are engaged in the pockets 12 and 14 removably. We are aware of the fact that no patentable novelty can be claimed for marking the slips 16 1n any particular way, and it is to be understood that the structure formingv the subject matter of this application may be used for va 'ious purposes, so far as the slips 16 are concerned. If desired, the slips 16 may carry, as shown at 17, the names of employees, and as shown at 18, the pay of the various employees may be marked on the slips. The slips may'be shifted about and be replaced by new slips, when an em- -ployee quits or is discharged. Lhen the structure is used in the manner above indicated, it will be found useful in aiding in the making up of a pay roll, and for other purposes.
If desired, the body may be provided at one end with holes 19, whereby it may be used in a loose leaf binder.
1t will be understood that the body may be of any length and width, the number of intermediate strips 4 being increased ac; cordingly.
The stitchings 11 coperating in the stitchings 5 and 8 serve not only to form the pockets 12 and 14 but, as well, hold the strips 3 and a in place on the opposite faces of the body, and aid in stiffening and reinforcing the body, and in holding the facings 2 on the plate 1.
The wings 6 will lie flat without crinlrling, and since the strips 3 may be made out of light leather or a similar material, the wings 7 will yield or stretch between the stitchings ll sufficiently to admit the ends of the slips 16.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A leaf for a loose leaf binder, comprising a body; separate alined inner end strips vwith each other and with the body and dividing each intermediate strip into lateral wings; transverse securing` means uniting the intermediate portions kof the respective end strips with each other and with the body, and dividing each end strip into inner and outer wings, the outer wings of the inner end strips and the body having holes for receiving a binding means; and longitudinal lines of securing means connecting the strips with the body and sub-dividing the wings of the intermediate strips and the inner wings of the end strips into cooperating card-holding pockets, the longitudinal lines of securing means being eX- tended to said edges of the body thereby to maintain the holes of the inner strips and of the body alined, and to hold the outer wings of the outer end strips to the body thereby to form a double thick reinforcement.
ln testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereto afliXed our signatures 1n the presence of two witnesses.
