SAMUEL DEALHAM, JR., OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR T0 KRAUS & 00., INCORPORATED, A CORPORATION OF MARYLAND.
VENDING DISPLAY-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 27, 1917.
Application filed December 2, 1915. Serial N 0. 64,767.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL DEALHAM,
Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at vBaltimore city, in the State of Maryland, have invented a certain new and useful Vending Display-Box, of which the followa specification. My invention relates to improvements in vending display boxes, and the object of my improvement is the providing of a sanitary display box for the vending of articles requiring protection from the elements, such as cigars, candies and the like.
A further object of my improvement is the providing in a vending display box of improved means of securing the transparent part of the same.
A further object of my improvement is the providing in-a vending display box of improved means of securing the cover to the same.
With the foregoing and other objects in view my invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein specifically described and illustrated in the drawings wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of'my invention, but it is understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come withinthe scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings of the herein described embodiment of my invention Figure 1 shows a view of a vending display box closed embracing my improvement; Fig. 2 shows an enlarged sectional view taken through A B of Fig. 1 with the cover raised; and, Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken through C D of Fig. 1, showing more particularly the securing of the transparent member and the locking means for holding the cover closed.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
1 is the box body, the top back edge of which is turned over a wire 6 at 2 forming one part of the hinge for the cover, the other I three edges are turned inwardly at 3 to form 6 forming a hinge. The other three edges of the cover are turned down at 7 and flanged up at 8.
On cover 4 are lugs 9 preferably stamped integral with said cover on each of the four inside edges bent back on the under side of the cover and around the transparent member 10, which transparent member in the drawing is glass, but may be of any suitable material, among which might be mentioned mica, gelatin or celluloid.
Lugs 9 are so formed where embracing the edge of the transparent member as to form catches which engage member 3 of the box. The top edge of the box on all four sides when the cover is closed fits tight against the same outside of transparent member 10.
The box and cover may be made of any suitable material which may be formed into shape such as metal or plastic materials. In practice for cigar use I have found tin satisfactory.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display box embracing a body, a top hinged to said body having a transparent member, lugs securing said transparent member in the top, and a holding device on the body engaging with said lugs to hold the top in closed posltion.
2. A displaybox embracing a body, a top to said body having a transparent member, lugs securing said transparent member in the top integral with said top, and a holding device on the body engaging with said lugs to hold the top in closed position.
3. A display box embracing a body, a top having a transparent member, lugs securing said transparent member in the top, a holding device on the body engaging with said lugs to hold the top in closed position and a turn-down edge of said top outside of said body when in closed positlon.
